The Plagues
Exodus 7:14–10:29
Introduction
Today we will look at the remaining encounters between Moses and Pharaoh. The nine plagues that are described in these chapters, lead up to the last and greatest plague, which will become known as "The Passover.”
The plagues were intended to answer the question Pharaoh himself had asked, "Who is ______?"
The plagues confront the Pharaoh in a language He ______.
God tells Pharaoh in Chapter 9 Verse 14, "I will send all My plagues to your very ______, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth. (Exo 9:14)
In Chapter 10 God tells Moses the reason for the plauges is that you may ______that I am the LORD." (Exo 10:2)
______, self-will and arrogance, will corrupt any individual and eventually bring divine discipline and judgment.
God is long-suffering but he will deal with pride. It was pride that caused Satan to rebel against God. It was pride that caused Pharaoh and his leaders to resist Yahweh and resulted in their destruction. Yahweh is the ultimate ruler of this universe. The kingdoms of this world come and go, but God remains in ______.
Throughout the Word of God we are warned about the ______nature of pride.
The plagues were designed to reveal God’s power and majesty as well as His mercy and ______.
The nine plagues are divided into three groups of ______.
In the first triad all the land of Egypt is smitten indiscriminately, but in the second and third triads the plagues fall on Egypt but they do not fall on ______where the children of Israel are living.
I. The First Triad of Plagues
The Nile was revered as an Egyptian ______.
In chapter 8 verse 1 it says, “And the LORD spoke to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'Thus says the LORD: "Let My people go, that they may ______Me.
The magicians used their ______to bring up frogs on the land of Egypt. (Exo 8:1-7)
Pharaoh says, "Entreat the Lord that he may take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do ______unto the Lord." (Exo 8:8)
When Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he ______his heart and did not heed them, as the LORD had said.” (Exo 8:15)
The third plague is ______. And notice there is no warning of any kind.
The magicians are unable to reproduce so they say to Pharaoh, "This is the ______of God." But Pharaoh's heart was hardened and he hearkened not unto them as the Lord had said.”
God demonstrates that the gods of Egypt cannot ______themselves. It was God's direct way of saying these gods of Egypt are not gods at all.
II. The Second Triad of Plagues
God says, "Let My people go, that they may serve Me. Or else, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of ______on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses.
God tells Pharaoh, “I will make a ______between My people and your people. (Exo 8:20-23)
Pharaoh says, "Go, sacrifice to your God in the ______"
Next Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very ______.
The sixth plague is the plague of ______.

III. The Third Triad of Plagues
Pharaoh could have been the great emancipator. Instead he becomes the great ______. He could have liberated the people, but instead he only makes their bondage more unbearable.
Finally, instruction and warning turns to punishment and ______.
"If a person will not bend, then they will______.”
What God does is always ______.
Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is ______?"
Pharaoh says, You can go and serve your God but on the ______can go.
Pharaoh will say anything to stop the plagues but he is certainly not ______.
The ninth plague is a plague of ______, a darkness that covers the whole land, except for the land of Goshen where the children of Israel had light.
Conclusion
Christian liberation is about setting people free from their ______. The Book of Exodus is a picture of spiritual liberation, not one of material, social, or political liberation.
As a result of the tenth plague, the Egyptian confess, "We are ______men."
God is patient and long-suffering with us. He wants to deliver us and teach us how to walk in his ______.
