MARGARETT AND LEONARD MCCALLA, JR.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Margarett and Leonard McCalla, Jr. were long-time residents of Garnett who for many years published The Anderson Countian newspaper and later became part owners and founders of The Garnett Publishing Company.

As long as health allowed, both Margarett and Leonard were active in local, civic, community and church activities as well as local, state and national politics. They supported and participated in leading various youth groups and were strong believers in life-long learning.

In memory of Margarett and Leonard McCalla, Jr., and their firm belief in the importance of education, this scholarship is offered.

Amount of Scholarship: $1000 total

•$500 paid at the beginning of the first semester to the school of choice with proof of enrollment

•$500 to be paid to school of choice with proof of earned 1st semester GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale

Proof of enrollment and proof of GPA should be presented to the

USD #365 Endowment Scholarship Committee

Who is eligible:

•Current or past USD #365 student

•If already attending a school of higher education you must provide proof of

3.0 GPA or better based on a 4.0 scale

•Enrolling as full-time student in junior college or university

•Renewable with new application

Required information and documentation:

•Completed application

•High school transcript and current college transcript if attending post high school classes

•3 letters of recommendation (one from a teacher and two from any of the following; teacher, administrator, community leader, religious leader, employer etc.)

•Resume (should include general resume information, accomplishments and history as well as short and long range goals)
