CIUB Summer School Program Syllabus

Program Description

This program is designed for the students of University of Basel and other universities in Switzerland. The main objective of the program is to help students develop their listening and speaking skills of Chinese language and their understanding of China, particularly contemporary China.

The program is composed of two parts with total 90 course hours and 30 working hours for assignments. The first part is pre-departure intensive courses of Chinese culture and language with 30 course hours in the Confucius Institute at the University of Basel (CIUB) starting from July 3-11, 2017. The second part contains intensive 60-hour course work and cultural excursions at East China Normal University (ECNU), Shanghai starting from July 29 to August 12, 2017.

Upon completion, students are expected to have a better understanding of Chinese language and culture.

Program Requirement

The program is offered only to university students with or without Chinese language background. The program contains intensive lectures and cultural excursions.

Participants will have oral and written Chinese language examinations. They are required to write journals to report their stay in Shanghai. In addition, they will make two presentations with one before departure and the second presentation upon completion of the program.

Scores

Upon completion of the program, participants will have 4 ECTS credits (European Credit and Transfer System).
