Contemporary World: Term 4 Project 50%
WORLD FAIR
As a culmination of all the knowledge gained over the course all secondary V students will be participating in a West Island College World’s Fair. Students will be assigned a country which they will research and present to peers, teachers, and parents. This complex project will count for fifty percent of the term 4 grade, class time given to work on this project should be used wisely as expectations of what is produced will be high.
Every Project must include:
Research Report: consisting of all the information on your country related to the themes which we have covered in the course:
-Historical Background of the country
Ex; How/When did the current borders/name come to be & other relevant info
-The country’s political situation
Ex; Government structure, Inter/Intra tensions/conflicts, Military, etc…
-The country’s environment situation
Ex; Regulations, Resources the have/are lacking, climate, future concerns, etc…
-The country’s economic situation
Ex; Main sources of export/imports, GDP, and the spread of wealth, etc…
-The country’s social situation
Ex; Demographic breakdown, Culture, Religion, Language, etc…
Bristol Board: Key information will be selected to be placed on a three sided Bristol board for the oral portion of the project. The goal of your bristol board is to make it interesting!!!
Oral:For the oral portion you will need to select the greatest issue affecting your country and discuss it. You should begin by giving a brief (1min) overview of the country and then discuss the issue(4min), both sides, what theme does it connect to, and in your informed opinion onthe best solutions. You should also be able to answer basic questions about the country from teachers and your peers.
Tactile Cultural & TechnologicalComponent: You want to be able to show off some intriguing aspects to your country. Examples can be; local food, dress, language, dance, and customs. Also you should present images of your country in a more dynamic way you should prepare a slide show of pictures.
Peer Project Analysis: You will be given time to tour the world’s fair and answer basic questions on at least 4 other countries.
Teachers will be conducting “check points” in class to ensure their students are staying on top of this project over the course of the term. The World Fair will take place on ______
