HMA Quality Verification Testing

The HMA program is accepted on a statewide basis. Each time prior to placing any tonnage on your project the project leader must notify the following people 2 days prior to the start of placement.

Please provide the following information when you call

  • Mix Design Number – verification sampling frequency is based on mix
  • Design production
  • Mix type
  • Tons to be produced/placed
  • Paving dates
  • Plant location

E-guide Tips

Project Leader is required to generate & print out e-guide as it will step you through all the requirements needed for each material used on your project. You will also need to verify that the e-guide requirements are consistent with the C&M Manual and your projects’ special provisions.

Additional Tips

•Review all material certifications prior to the product being used on the project. All materials must be approved and all required documents should be on file prior to paying for the item

•Testing Guide quantities are minimums, sampling frequencies must be met

Verification test frequencies must be met (Follow contract QMP Specifications for frequencies)

•Quantity Overruns & Contract Modifications – additional tests may be required to cover additional quantities

•Notify I.A. and MC. for all Pre-Pour and Deck Pours

•All cylinders must be tested by a WisDOT Qualified Lab

•Review Final Quality Control Records and Cylinder Rate of Loading Charts (AASHTO T 22) 35 +/- 7 psi/s

•Project Leader to review final Compressive Strength Incentive on MRS prior to payment.

•Miscellaneous sampling supplies located in drop-off room (i.e. sample tags, sample bags, AC cans, tack jugs, cylinder molds etc…)

•AC Samples – coordinate with Steve Ames in LaCrosse and Nancy Bushe in Madison to determine who will obtain samples.

•All Nuclear Gauges must be run across Region reference block prior to use
