As Senior Communications Officer, I deal with media queries, research and write media releases and statements, produce content (including video) for our social media, internal and external communication channels and manage the organisation's reputation. I have developed media plans for several of the business areas (Insurance, Home Services etc) and work with teams in the respective departments to execute the plans. This involves commissioning and analysing research to present it in a way that is attractive to the media to ensure maximum uptake.

I have worked part-time at the tourist office while it has experienced a busy time trying to establish Lysekil as a cruise destination and pursuing other tourism marketing projects. While in the role, I have been in charge of a project that involved cruise ship M/S Marina visiting Lysekil. In my role, I liaised with the destination management company and tour operators, ensuring a smooth visit for the 1200 passengers. I was also responsible for writing press releases and organising media events. In August, I was responsible for the marketing campaign to promote an event drawing on the region's history as an area of privateers. I coordinated the filming and editing of a TV commercial, planned the advertising and social media campaign, wrote press releases and coordinated media events. I have also been responsible for maintaining and updating the tourist information website.

Through my freelance business, I provide customers with all their text-based needs: translations to and from English and Swedish, proof-reading, editing, researching etc. I have been engaged for a lot of translating jobs in the tourism sector and have also created web content for several websites using different content management systems. I also maintain my own website, using Wordpress.

Bohusläningen (Swedish regional daily) (and summer contracts in 2007 and 2008)

As the local editor at Bohusläningen’s regional office in Lysekil, I was responsible for all news-gathering, writing and photographing in the Lysekil municipality on the Swedish west coast.Rounds included police, local government/state/politics, social affairs, education etc. I reported both for the print and online versions of our paper and also did live reporting using Scribble, Twitter and Facebook.

I worked full-time for the Yarra Ranges Journal as its solereporterfor more than two years (2005-2007). I was responsible for sourcing, researching, writing and allocating news and feature articles. Rounds included local government, state/federal politics, agricultural, police, social affairs etc.

I won the Fairfax Community Network’s annual award for best news story in both 2005 and 2006. I also had news articles published in The Age during this time, including a front-page lead.During 2007, I continued work as a reporteracross several of the company’s publications, including Yarra Ranges, Maroondah, Monash and Knox Journals and Manningham Weekly, Melbourne Weekly, Melbourne Weekly Magazine and Heidelberg & Valley Weekly.

During 2008, I worked as sub-editor in our main office in Dandenong, where FCN’s 33 newspapers and magazines were edited, in order to improve my sub-editing skills ahead of my news editor role. The following year, I took on the position ofnews editor in our Knox office, where I was responsible for leading the team of reporters working on Yarra Ranges, Maroondah, Monash and Knox Journals, as well as the allocation, proof-reading, editing and planning across the four titles. “My” newspaperswon FCN’s annual award for best news and pictorial news that year for our coverage of the tragic bushfires that claimed hundreds of lives in February 2009. In addition, I personally won the award for best news story in 2010. As new editor, I was also responsible for updating our website publications.

I worked in the newsroom, writing about five articles per day across rounds such as politics, police, local government, agriculture, indigenous and migration affairs etc. I won the publisher’s annual award for best reporter, after completing my cadetship in eight months rather than the usual 12.
