NATIONAL MECHANICAL INSTALLS NATURAL GAS AT WINDSOR PARK
Con Edison and NATIONAL MECHANICAL SERVICES INC are working in Bayside to Make Queens Greener
Windsor Park Customers Saving $800,000 Annually By Switching From Oil to Natural Gas
Con Edison is working to make it easier for residents and businesses in Queens to switch from oil to cleaner natural gas for heating.
The company and NATIONAL MECHANICAL SERVICES INC are converting apartment buildings at the Windsor Park complex in Bayside, Queens from oil to natural gas. Windsor Park is home to 1,830 apartments with more than 5,000 residents, who currently use 750,000 gallons of No.6 heating oil annually.
Windsor Park’s annual carbon emissions will be reduced substantially after the complex completes all of its oil to gas conversion. The savings will be equivalent to taking over 430 cars off the road. The conversions will help the city achieve its environmental goals and reduce the building owners’ heating bills, since natural gas is less expensive than heating oil. Windsor Park management expects to see an annual savings of up to $800,000.
“We are so pleased with the support from Con Edison, as we undertake this complex and involved oil to gas conversion,” said Larry Kinitsky, president of Windsor Park. ”The coordination between Con Edison and NATIONAL MECHANICAL SERVICES INC (our boiler conversion contractor) has been outstanding. We are confident that the project will be completed on time at year’s end.”
The Mayor’s Office and the Department of Environmental Protection implemented new regulations in 2011 to phase out the use of No. 6 heating oil by 2015 and No. 4 oil by 2030.
Con Edison has streamlined the process for new gas customers and established a new department dedicated to oil-to-gas conversion projects to make it easier and faster for customers to convert.
Natural gas is efficient, safe, reliable, and is one of the cleanest-burning fuels available. Converting to natural gas also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves air quality.
