People Are Tops (PAT) Award
Revised Feb 2011
Recognizing Achievement
People Are Tops (PAT) Award is Schreiner's Staff recognition award and is representative of the University's commitment to continuous improvement in serving our customers – students, fellow employees and outside constituents. When employees strive to do more than their everyday job requires, we provide an atmosphere of excellence for our students.
What Is The PAT Award?
The PAT Award was established in August 2000. It is a Staff recognition award and will be presented quarterly to promote and recognize an employee’s excellent customer service and business practices at Schreiner University.
What Does The Recipient Of The PAT Award Receive?
· A $400 award (This award is taxable)
· A framed PAT Award certificate
Why Nominate Someone?
The PAT Award of Excellence is designed to recognize a Staff member's efforts toward providing excellent customer service and campus community involvement while carrying out the University's mission statement. The result is personal and professional recognition for Staff who strives for excellence. The award creates recognition for accomplishments through work and campus community involvement with customers and stakeholders.
Who Can Be Nominated And Who Can Nominate?
Any Schreiner University Staff member, whether full-time, part-time or temporary can be nominated for the award. Also any employee of Schreiner’s business partner Sodexo. The nominations can come from Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni, Donors or outside constituents.
How Are Award Recipients Chosen?
To be considered for an award, a PAT Award nomination form must be submitted. To ensure the review process is fair, all nominations follow the same process and meet the same deadlines. The awards are granted three times per year in October, February, and May. Once the nominations are received, the PAT Award committee reviews the submissions and selects the PAT recipient. The PAT Award committee is made up of Staff employees representing various departments.
Is This Award Taxed?
Prizes, awards, and gifts paid from Schreiner University funds (as opposed to funds collected from employees) are generally taxable under the Internal Revenue Code. The fact that an individual did not apply for the award does not affect taxability; even the Nobel Prize is taxable. A cash award to an employee is taxable and it is subject to all payroll tax withholding and W-2 reporting.
