Hostels Team Leader

1. Job Title: Hostel Team Leader

2. Reportsto: Hostels Manager

3. Place of Work: St Josephs, Glenlogie and The Lodge with travel across all services. Normal working hours would be 37 hours per week, this will incorporate evening working to support the night shelters.

4. Job Purpose.

To coordinate the running of the Night Hostel Accommodation provided by Stonepillow. This will include the supervision of Night Project Workers, inducting and supervising volunteers, relief project workers and coordinating Rota’s. Managing the communal storage areas within the hostel accommodation and providing support at The Lodge.

5. Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

a) To Secure a Safe Environment for Staff & Clients in the Hostels and the Lodge

  • Ensure Risk Assessments on Clients are completed
  • Ensure Environmental Risk Assessments on the property are completed, to include all Health and Safety regulations
  • To deal with any First Aid Issues
  • To Ensure Fire Risk Assessment Reviewed appropriately
  • To supervise the team to immediately assess risk when clients access the service and to manage any chaotic behaviour
  • To ensure any property defects are reported and undertaken
  • Provide a welcoming and supportive response to clients
  • To be a member of the out-of-hours on call rota, responding to calls and attendance on site as necessary.

b) Provide Support & Supervision

  • Provide supervision to the night project workers at the Hostel Accommodation
  • To provide induction and coordination to the volunteers who undertake roles within the hostel accommodation
  • Ensure the Hostels are effectively staffed in the event of sickness or other emergencies
  • To undertake reviews of key working and support sessions with clients to review progress, development and challenge any negative behaviours
  • To effectively manage the communal storage areas within the hostel accommodation and ensure large donations are accommodated
  • To share best practice with other teams in the arena of rough sleeping
  • To sit on the Stonepillow Housing Panel, when required, feeding into the move on pathway through Stonepillow Services.
  • To coordinate the referrals into hostel accommodation, when required
  • To accurately record and monitor outcomes to provide robust information on area’s such as demographic of clients, lengths of stay, outcomes and tenancy sustainment
  • To assimilate and review regular feedback from all stakeholders (including clients) to improve services and outcomes as part of Stonepillow’s continuous development programme.
  • To have an active role in dealing with finance in services, which includes responsibility budgets and service charges

c) Professional Compliance

  • Operate within clear professional and confidentiality boundaries
  • To implement service specific policies and procedures
  • Regular liaison with other Stonepillow services.
  • Structured communication internally within the team and to the rest of the business
  • To attend staff meetings as required
  • To develop a knowledge of the organisations other services and support
  • To ensure the service is maintained to a good, clean and tidy standard
  • To represent Stonepillow at multi agency meetings, in a professional way, when required by the Hostels Manager

d) Skills & Communication

  • To ensure staff accurately record support & advice given and files are reviewed on a regular basis
  • To use and access the IT systems, including e-mail and the HALO system
  • To understand and accurately record housing benefit and rent issues and work with the Housing Team to ensure rent arrears are kept to a minimum
  • To diffuse chaotic situations ensuring the continued safety of the staff and clients
  • To maintain a professional approach to all communications with external agencies and visitors
  • To deal with difficult and problematic situations in a sensitive manner.
  • Ensure regular Staff Supervisions and Appraisals take place.

6. Health and Safety

To ensure the health, safety and security of staff, students, clients volunteers and members of the public on the premises in all locations in line with the project procedures.

7. Confidentiality

This policy covers all Stonepillow employees and volunteers, all of whom will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement. Anyone working for Stonepillow who breaches the agreement will be liable to disciplinary action under the staff disciplinary procedure.

8. Other

To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required in the interest of Stonepillow.
