Memorandum for Schools and Educational Nonprofits:
After coordination with federal agencies and some of the currently registered schools/educational nonprofits, we are pleased to announce the redesign and renaming of the Computers for Learning website. This is far more than merely a website redesign; we have re-engineered the entire process, which we believe will improve your access to excess federal property and increase the transfers of property to you. The new web address is
No longer will you post a listing of property you need and wait for federal agencies to contact you. Although the re-engineering puts more responsibility on the potential requester, it also provides a wealth of opportunities for you.
Agencies will report excess, available property to Computers for Learning, where you will be able to search the available item list, select the items you need, and put them in a virtual shopping cart, a commercial web process. The system will then submit your request to the owning agency and you will be contacted either with an allocation or a denial via electronic mail.
Upon receipt of an allocation notice, the requesting activity will need to sign the automated transfer request and either fax it to the owning agency or scan it and return to the owning agency by electronic mail.
In order to facilitate this new process, we will have to re-establish all registrants in Computers for Learning. To participate in Computers for Learning after April 15, 2007, you will need to completely re-register as a school or eligible educational non-profit organization. As a part of this new process, you will also be required to update your registration around the beginning of the school year, but Computers for Learning will send you a notice to do this.
Attached to this memo is a PowerPoint file providing detailed instructions for use of the new Computers for Learning site, including registering, selecting property, and other pertinent information. This instructional material will also be available at the new Computers for Learning website.
We look forward to your continued participation in the Computers for Learning and hope that these exciting new changes will be beneficial to you and your students.
