Email integration – how does it work within D2L?
· Meg brought up the point that when mail goes into D2L from outside D2L (regardless of whether or not the thread originated in D2L) that it goes into the overall D2L email folder rather than the course email folder for the particular course. Students and faculty who are not aware of this might miss messages if their normal workflow is to look for messages within a course. Meg wanted to discuss with the Committee whether we should alert faculty and students to this.
· Joe and Linda said that there have been very few questions and issues reported about this since implementation this summer and thus far they have decided not to “rock the boat” by making a big announcement as an announcement can potentially cause more confusion and problems. It was decided to continue monitoring this and if an announcement is made, it will be made as a simple reminder that you can check email from the home folder to D2L and about the red new email indicator light within D2L.
· Dan and Bruce reported that the capability to send emails from LCC email to D2L email has allowed them to respond to students much more quickly.
· Joe reported that a small amount of spam was getting to D2L email (primarily from email address books of former students), but it was not excessive and was to be expected. / Meg
Student representation on TAC Committee
· We discussed whether to expand the TAC Committee to include student representation. It was decided that was a good idea. Kevin and Bruce will follow up on inviting student members. / Kevin, Bruce
