Parent Orientation Meeting Checklist

(B/G 8U Division)

Whether you’re a veteran coach or a newbie your Parent Orientation Meeting can be a daunting task, so we’ve compiled this guideline to help. As mentioned on the Coaches page, you should allot one hour for this meeting. Sometime during your meeting your Division Director will come by and speak for approx. 10 mins.

·  Introduce yourself and your assistant coach (if you already have one)

·  Explain the AYSO philosophies.

·  Remind parents that team roster, team information, games etc., are available online and can be accessed from our web site login page,www.ayso154.org.

·  Remind the parents that the web site has extensive information under the menu item, Parent Guide, and it helps us if they scan through it.

·  Explain your expectations of players and parents (send by email to team, for absentees).

·  Introduce your Team Parent - mention they will organize the uniforms, snack schedule, team website, etc. (seeTeam Parentpage).

·  Team Volunteer form MUST BE completed before the end of your meeting. If you’d like, you can have this done before your meeting.

§  There are three methods for filling out our Team Volunteer form. Please use only one option:

§  Option # 1 (print out and bring theWord Doc.)

§  Option #2 (bring a laptop and fill out theGoogle Spreadsheet)

§  Option #3 (use your phone and fill out theGoogle Form).

·  Rules of the Game (e.g., game format,

·  Build-out line rule (8U-10U only)

·  New Referee Rule

·  Rained out games and field blackout dates

·  Practice Schedule

·  Field setup and field cleanup (quick litter check after games)

·  Remind parents to always check the game schedule online before game day. Last minute changes may occur due to factors such as field conditions, city maintenance, school functions, etc. Don't fall into the trap of sending a game schedule. Do not send a game scheduleand getting parents used to expecting you to keep them up to date. The only sure way is for parents to check the online schedule themselves. Last minute schedule updates often occur without notice, and you will not have time to update your team.

·  Discuss parking and restrooms at the practice and game fields

·  Graffiti policy strictly enforced.

·  Discuss equipment for appropriate division and bringing water.

·  Remind your Assistant Coach and Team Parent that the Emergency Release Forms must be brought to every team event, including parties.

·  Snack Duties

·  Tournament Play Possibilities

·  Spring Select program

·  Tournament teams

·  League Playoffs and All-Star play (Playoff on Saturdays, All-Stars on Sundays)

·  Remind your parents that you’re not a baby sitter. At least one parent needs to be there during practices/games.

·  Trophies at the end of the year.

Last, remind parents to follow the chain of command with any questions. They first go to you (coach) and then to the Division Director. If the answer is already on our website the Division Director will direct you to the appropriate webpage.
