A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MARTHA R. ROBERTS OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO THE EDUCATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA’S YOUTH, AND TO WISH HER ALL THE BEST UPON HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who selflessly give their time and energy in developing young minds in their communities; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those who teach and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and
Whereas, Martha Roberts, principal of Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, truly deserves such distinction, as she has helped to shape countless lives in her rich thirty-four year career in education; and
Whereas, before becoming an administrator, Ms. Roberts was an elementary and middle school teacher; and
Whereas, always willing to take on new challenges, Ms. Roberts has served as principal of several Richland County public schools, including Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary, Killian Elementary, Dent Middle School, and Forest Lake Elementary; and
Whereas, Ms. Roberts encourages her faculty and students to perform to their highest potential, and sharing with new teachers the experiences of her rich career as an educator, she guides and inspired these novice teachers as they embark on their careers; and
Whereas, recognized for her professionalism and extraordinary passion for public education, Ms. Roberts has been named in Who’s Who in Education, was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa, was named Teacher of the Year at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, completed the Principal’s Assessment Center Program, and completed the Illinois Administrator’s Academy; and
Whereas, Ms. Roberts remains as dedicated to her students and to the furtherance of public education as she was when she began her career as an educator over thirty years ago, and the students of Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary and the surrounding community are fortunate to have her in their lives; and
Whereas, Ms. Roberts is the proud mother of Chris and his wife Stephanie, and has become the doting and beloved grandmother of Chris and Stephanie’s son, Chandler. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
