NWRESD School Board Summary – January 2018
Submitted by Kerri Smith, Director of
Outdoor School
This is a slack time for Outdoor School, between sessions. They are gearing up for the spring session and always have staff to hire recruiting, and preparation to commence. We are also excited to announce that this year we have partnered with Multnomah ESD, and Confluence Environmental Center, to bring an AmeriCorps member onto our team. Adrian Martinez will be our Diverse Recruitment Coordinator, and will split their time between NWRESD, and MESD. Adrian will be working to bring in a more diverse population of student leaders that better reflects the population of 6th graders that we serve.
Facilities/Safety
The remodeling project feels like it should be done, but we’re really close. The cubicles have been reconfigured and we’re finishing up odds & ends.
At our Cas-Pac site they are also finishing up the first phase of that project. This will give additional classroom space to the Cascade side of the building. This done and they are beginning to use one classroom and waiting for the census to increase before using the other. The elementary behavior phase will begin soon and ready for full occupancy because of the high need within districts.

GED Testing Activity:
1)Testing was busy at the end of the year as student and professionals were scheduling and testing before the end of the calendar year.
2)December 2017 had a larger number of professional testers than GED testing.
3)Pearson VUE added several new accounts that we will be adding to test clients.
4)GED Testing was back open in Columbia County and the 4 days we were open the seats were full.
5)The new test room continues to be a great change as returning students comment on how quite it is in this room. (We still continue to have an issue with the noise traveling through the wall when there is a meeting/video in the Columbia Room.)
ORVED
The staff is working hard to get as many students enrolled as possible. There will be site visits and visits with students. We are leaning to use a new software , “Canvas” that will allow teachers to create their own on-line courses. We hope to be a leader in training others how to use this resource.
