D50 FORWARD!

“Leading through Change”

Forum Report

Over 100 Lions, CIS and guests, and six LEO district officers attended the District 50 Leadership Forum the weekend of Oct. 28-29, 2017. The participants were able to choose from 20 break-out sessions as well as four plenary sessions over the day and a half forum. From the comments and ratings on the evaluation forms, all were highly energized and pleased with the forum. Some of the comments are included at the end of this report.

We were pleased to have two distinguished Lions from Lions Clubs International, Past International President (2012-13) Wayne Madden from Indiana, and Past Council Chair, Dr. Dennis Grotrian, from MD4 in California. Both of them were pleased with our forum and gave excellent presentations on topics related to the changes that are occurring at the international level as well as a perspective on Lionism throughout the world.

We also had two local non-Lion presenters, Dr. Kimo Alameda, the Director of the Office of Aging on the Big Island, who spoke on leadership, and Mr. Michael Lee, CEO and Team Leader from TeamWorks, who spoke on inter-generational aspects and team building. Both of them were excellent speakers, and there were many requests for contact information. (Dr. Kimo Alameda – ; Michael Lee –)

Thank you to all 29 of the presenters – PDGs and Lions who shared their experience and insight on the various topics. Copies of the forum program and description of the break-out sessions are posted on the D50 web site, along with many of the hand-outs and information that were presented at the forum.

There were also many donations of refreshments, leis, and funds that helped with forum expenses, and LCI funded the airfare for the two distinguished Lions. We were able to break even on the forum expenses from the registration and banquet fees, so we will return the $5000 advance from the District 50 funds!

Some specific, verbatim comments taken from the evaluation forms:

“Excellent forum, providing info and insight on a myriad of issues Lions Clubs are facing at the present time. Presenting panels of club presidents and PDGs offering history and info on their past experiences was a grand idea. Forum did cover the numerous facets of the Lions Club. Thank you for the energy and effort that went into the planning and then implementing the plans!”

“It was well worth it. In fact, too cheap for all that we received.”

“Great! Should have had all Pres/VPs here for training with LCI information.”

The planning committee thanks all who participated in this inaugural effort to implement one of DG Blayne Hanagami’s goals for the year – to enhance the leadership skills of Lions in District 50!
