CREC Public Safety Academy Holds Basketball Clinic for Enfield Youth
(Hartford, CT) The CREC Public Safety Academy held a basketball clinic December 13 for children in grades three through six who live in Enfield.
It was an opportunity for children to learn basketball skills. It was also a chance for them to learn about sportsmanship and friendly competition.
The clinic, a collaborative effort, was run by players and coaches from the CREC Public Safety Academy and Enfield High School boys’ basketball teams. The two teams scrimmaged after the clinic, and many of the clinic participants and their families stayed to watch.
Joining the student-athletes in talking with clinic participants was CREC Family Resource Director Eric Crawford. Crawford spoke to campers about the importance of academics, family, and service in the community.
In addition to the clinic in Enfield, CREC held two other basketball clinics on December 13. One at the CREC Medical Professions and Teacher Preparation Academy in New Britain; the other at the CREC Metropolitan Learning Center for Global and International Studies in Bloomfield. CREC hopes to run future clinics in the communities where its schools are located.
CREC recognizes that participation in athletics can enhance life skills, and the clinics demonstrate CREC’s commitment to both athletics and to community service.
“It was great to see so many young students to have the opportunity to develop their basketball skills in a positive and supportive environment,” said Tim Sullivan, CREC’s assistant superintendent for operations.
