Job Title: / Digital Content AssistantResponsible to: / Design and Communications Coordinator
Salary: / £18,238 per annum
Hours of work: / 36.5 hours per week. You are expected to offer some flexibility to include at least one evening a week in term time.
Contract: / Full-time until 31st May 2019
Applicants: / University of Sussex or BSMS graduates (graduated in 2016, 2017 or 2018), or University of Sussex students requiring an industry placement. The Union looks to employ Sussex, and BSMS students and graduates in order to provide valuable skills and experience to them, increasing their employability and personal development
Purpose of the Job
a) To support the development and delivery of key marketing and communications projects across the Union through the production of written and visual content for all relevant communication channels
b) To develop and implement online and social media engagement projects
c) To take photos and videos of Union events and activities and edit for communications projects
d) To provide support for officers on the delivery of relevant annual projects, campaigns, activities and events
Duties and responsibilities
All duties and responsibilities are at the direction of the Design and Communications Coordinator. The post holder is expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times and perform the duties and responsibilities in the job description to the required standard.
1. Content and Communications
1.1 To produce, source, proofread, edit and manage content, including simple graphics, for Sussex Students’ Union owned channels including social media, email newsletters, printed items and websites in line with the Communications Strategy, style guide and organisational priorities.
1.2 To take and edit high quality photographs and video of Union events and activities preferably using a DSLR camera for use in print and digital marketing campaigns
1.3 To support the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of the Union’s digital marketing, communications plans and social media campaigns (eg. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat).
1.4 To regularly monitor and respond to enquiries from students, user feedback and audience research, developing ideas to improve and enhance social media and online content.
1.5 To support, update and develop the Union’s website appearance, content and usability and work towards improving the performance and user experience of sussexstudent.com as measured against key metric and qualitative goals.
1.6 To coordinate the Union’s regular email newsletter and internal newsletter including producing, sourcing and editing content, then laying out and editing the newsletter in accordance with style guides and templates.
1.7 To stay abreast of emerging and developing trends in online, digital and social media communications, and identify opportunities to apply them to the Union's online presence.
1.8 To advocate, encourage and support the use of the sussexstudent.com CMS, the intranet and digital communication channels.
1.9 To support the Communications Manager and the Design and Communications Coordinator in the implementation of other key strategic plans and activities.
1.10 To provide support and training to union staff, volunteers and officers to help them effectively use digital media.
2. General
