We are looking for senior social care professionals, third sector professionals and public members to join the‘Social Care Research All Wales Prioritisation Panel’, which advises Health and Care Research Wales.
What is the purpose of Health and Care Research Wales?
Its vision is to support and develop excellent research which has a positive impact on the health, wellbeing and prosperity of the people in Wales.
What is the Health and Care Research Wales Social Care Research Award?
This award aims to build capacity in social care research by funding high quality research projects which will provide robust evidence with clear relevance to service users, carers, social care policymakers, and social care and support services and organisations.Research funded under this scheme should provide evidence to support efficient and effective social care and support in Wales, and/or improved service user or carer wellbeing.
What does the Panel do?
The role of the All Wales Prioritisation Panel is to advise Health and Care Research Wales on the importance of research proposals submitted and their potential to help to achieve Health and Care Research Wales’ broader aims to ‘inform tomorrow’s care and improve the health and wealth of the people of Wales’.
What do members of the Panel do?
Members are expected to read anonymised extracts of applications which consist of approximately five pages each, and make a judgement on the importance of the question posed based on the information given within the extract.Each member is expected to read a small number of application extracts thoroughly before leading a discussion with the rest of the panel. Members vote on the importance of each application using an electronic voting system.
The Panel usually receives anything from 10-20 applications, but this differs each year. All shortlisted applications proceed to peer review and assessment by a Scientific Board.
When will the Panel meet?
The Panel will meet on 21 February 2018. Meetings take place in Cardiff and members are expected to attend in person.
What kinds of new members are we looking for?
We would welcome applications from Wales-based:
- individuals who have demonstrable experience of social service commissioning or leading social care strategy, those who work in social care delivery either in public sector or third sector settings, and those who use research evidence to support decision-making in such settings
- members of the public with experience of social care services, either directly or as carers
