04 - YOU ARE LOVED

Welcome back to Game Changers! If you haven’t been here, game changers are truths that shape your life. Things like, You are Unique, and You have Purpose. Tonight we add, You are Loved. Aww…Let’s see just how much…

DO YOU LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR?

NOTE: This mixer requires chairs. If you are not in a setting that works you will need to substitute another crowdbreaker that involves everyone.

Directions:

1.  Everyone sits in a big circle.

2.  A person stands in the middle.

3.  They approach someone in the circle and ask, “What kind of neighbors do you love?” They answer, “I love neighbors who…” (Examples: are wearing Nikes, who are freshmen, who watch The Walking Dead, etc.).

4.  Everyone who fits the category must get up and find a different chair (not including the ones on either side of them).

5.  The person in the middle runs to sit in an empty chair.

6.  Last person becomes the person in the middle.

7.  Keep it moving quickly.

NOTE: If your club is more than 40, consider having a staff person with a cordless microphone in the middle to ask the question of the person in the middle. Otherwise hearing the person give the category gets to be a problem.

TO TELL THE TRUTH

(Repeated each week this month to get to know each other’s stories and get lots of different students up front).

DIRECTIONS:

1.  -Get three volunteer who “like to tell their story” and take them out of the room.

2.  -Give them a category (see examples below) and ask them to say in one sentence their answer that fits the category from their experience - AS GENERAL AS POSSIBLE.

3.  -Select the one that is most general and/or potentially the easiest to talk about.

4.  -Write the statement out and tell the contestants that they will each:

a.  Read it like it is their story (My name is ______and I______), Briefly tell their about their experience.

b.  -Then answer questions about it (obviously 2 of the 3 are making it all up).

5.  -After all three have told their story have the audience vote for who really did it.

6.  -Then say, “Will the person who actually ______please stand up.”

a.  Possible topics:

a.  Something you did on family vacation

b.  An embarrassing moment

c.  The pet I would most like to have

d.  The best thing I did in elementary school

PTERODACTYL SMILE

Directions:

1.  Group your students in circles of 8-10.

2.  Everyone must keep their teeth covered with their lips while playing this game. If the whites of theirfront of their teeth show they are out.

3.  One person in the group starts. While they have their lips covered they must say “pterodactyl” to either the person to the left or the right of them. They can say it as loud as they want or in whatever way they want so long as their lips do not reveal their teeth.

4.  The person to whom the word pterodactyl is being passed must not crack a smile revealing their teeth.

5.  Now they can pass it back or to the person on their other side. It’s actually hard to do this as people will do anything to knock someone out by being funny.

#CreateCourage - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

1) How does this video show different people caring about each other?

2) When has someone done something really nice for you?

3) When have you done something really nice for someone else?

4) I really think there are a lot of nice people out there. But why don’t we do more for each other?

(Share about a time where you felt really loved and it changed something positively for you)

At Campus Life we want you to know that you are unique, you have a purpose, and you are LOVED! We want Campus Life to be a place where you walk in and always know that you are loved. Sometimes life gets really hard and you need help thinking through the issues you face in a non-threatening, non-judgemental way. Thats Campus Life! We want to have open and honest conversation with you about the things you face.

The average American, including teenagers, is over-committed, too tired, and easily irritated. Campus Life can be a good break from all of those things. This is a place where you can come in and just have fun! We also love you and want to give you plenty of chances to get out of your current environment and do things you normally wouldn’t be able to do like (list a few trips you do here)! Our staff here know how important it is to walk in and have people know your name! Our names mean so much and we love your name! We want to do our best to learn it so that this can be a place where you can be yourself and be accepted for who you really are!

Knowing that you are loved is definitely a game changer

The Bible has so much to say about how loved you really are. God has a lot of loving things to say about you:

You are unique (knit together in your mother’s womb);

You have purpose (God has a plan for good);

You are loved.

Probably the most famous verse in the Bible says, “For God so loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

You are loved. That just might be a Game Changer!

Have staff ready all around the room to pass out a nice printed postcard that says “You are Loved” (and maybe a Campus Life Game Changer heading, and “You are Unique” and “You have Purpose” in smaller type.) Leave room for everyone on staff to sign each card as well.

Remind everyone of your month long plan (see “You are Unique” meeting) for the leader team to meet as many students as possible to learn just how unique they are. Come up with a plan that fits your team and sell it enthusiastically. This is really a great excuse to do more appointments in October than you have ever done. THAT would be a Game Changer!
