Job Title: Highline Navigator

Position Description:

Navigators are student leaders who are dedicated to promoting student success by assisting new students in the transition to college. Navigators support students in navigating college processes, engaging students in campus activities, and connecting them with campus support services/resources in preparation for graduation and transfer. As representatives of Highline College, Navigators must be committed to the values and mission of the college. They must have a positive attitude and the motivation to encourage and support others, while working as a member of a team in a professional environment.
Students will gain valuable skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, diversity, academic success, customer service, project/program coordination and knowledge of the wide breadth of services available to students.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be registered as a current Highline student. Preference to applicants planning to attend Highline and work in this position for an additional 3 quarters or more from date of hire.
  2. Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. May apply with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Must enroll in a minimum of 6 credits each quarter.
  4. Must be able to commit to on-going training and weekly team meetings.

Duties:

  1. Prepare, assist, and present as part of New Student Orientation and WayFinders Workshop Sessions.
  2. Provide campus tours.
  3. Promote campus resources and activities.
  4. Answer general student questions and refer students to appropriate services/programs.
  5. Serve as a peer role model, helping other students understand and develop their leadership potential.
  6. Lead student retention and completion efforts to new and first year students.
  7. Attend and assist at various on-campus events
  8. Initiate and develop dialogue with faculty, staff, students, and their family members.
  9. Attend weekly team meetings, planning sessions, and trainings
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Able to work some nights (no later than 7:30 PM).

Work Schedule: Varies. Approximately 10-12 hours/week, changes throughout the quarter.

Salary:

Paid hourly, 11.50/hour

Interview Process:

Round 1: Traditional Interview

Those selected for an interview will be contacted and scheduled to meet with the hiring committee. The committee will consist of the program lead and other supervisory staff. Interviews will be scheduled after full application is submitted.

Round 2: Director Meeting

Final candidates will have a 30 minute meeting with the Director of Advising and High School Programs.

Training

Trainings cover a lot of material that is essential for this position and your own professional growth. It is crucial that selected applicants be available and attend scheduled meetings and trainings.

Additional Information

Navigators can expect regular evaluations. Continuous employment will be determined by these evaluations. Navigators will be evaluated at the end of each quarter. Navigators who remain in good standing, and desire to work the following quarter, will keep working as a Navigator.
