Hebden Bridge Loop on The Pennine Way

To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Pennine Way, Hebden Bridge Walkers Action has created a waymarked route to the town and back to the Pennine Way via the ancient village of Heptonstall.

Meet Hebden Bridge Railway Station at 10.35.

Train from Victoria 9.47 arrives 10.19 but check times later.

The walk is in five stages and you can join or leave at any stage:

1.  A 3km walk up to Swillington, below Stoodley Pike and back down the track towards the Calder Valley.

2.  Turning off the Pennine Way on the Pennine bridleway a 2km walk to Horsehold and down into Hebden Bridge to the town centre where we stop for lunch ( And to look at the exhibition of photos in Crown Street)

3.  At 2pm we set off for a 1km walk up to Heptonstall via Hell Hole Rocks.

4.  We then walk 2km mainly on packhorse paths from Heptonstall to Hebble Hole - back on the Pennine way.

5.  From Hebble Hole, it is a 1km walk to the New Delight for refreshments and music.

Buses from the New Delight back to the station run hourly at 35 past the hour.

The walk is on good tracks and paths, with some steep ascents, and at points along the way there will be a range of entertainment.

Entertainment on the way:

There will be a running quiz about Hebden Bridge, the Pennine Way and 1965.

At Hebden Bridge, Calder Valley Voices will perform some new songs for us.

There will be a exhibition of photographs from 1965 on Crown Street.

There will be a performance of the famous Pace Egg play at Heptonstall.

The Peace Artistes will lead us out of Heptonstall and will perform at the New Delight.
