1. Introduction to Do-IT Profiler

The Do-IT Profiler is an online screening tool with three aims:

  • To identify any gaps in students’ study skills and suggest ways of improving them.
  • To provide information to academic staff about the study profiles of students on their courses. This may help inform teaching.
  • To help students decide whether or not to have a full assessment for Specific Learning Differences (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD).

New students are contacted during the summer and encouraged to complete at least the first two sections (Do-It First and Do-It Second). Students with lower scores (many 1’s and 2’s) are advised to do additional tests and questionnaires in the other two sections.

The Do-IT Profiler is not compulsory,so there will be some students who have not done it and who will not appear in the report. Since the Do-IT Profiler provides useful information for both students and staff, please encourage your students to do it if they have not already done so. They can do this by going to

2. The reports

There are two reports currently available:

  • Do-IT Profiler All Courses – This is a list of allcurrent students who have completed the Profiler. It can be filtered by year (1 – 3).
  • Do-IT Profiler Select Course – This is the same as the above report; however, a course filter has been added to allow users to viewstudents by course as well as year.

Links to both reports can be found at

Do-IT Profiler All Courses

This lists all current students who have completed the Profiler. It can be filtered by year or can show all years. After selecting the year, you need to click ‘Apply’ at the bottom of the menu.

Each cell has been formatted depending on the students’ results:

  • 1 – Significant Challenges
  • 2 – Many Challenges
  • 3 – Reasonable Skills
  • 4 – Good Skills

If a student’s name is highlighted in orange, this means they have self-identified as having poor study skills so may need more academic support.

At the top of the report is the following menu.

It allows you to:

  • export the report to a different format (e.g. Word, Pdf, Excel) – Actions
  • move to the next or previous page – 
  • search for a student by name – Find Next

A student will not appear on your course list if they have not yet done the Profiler. In this case, please encourage them to do so.

Within the All Courses report, there is a link to view students by courses as well as a link to the most updated version of the user manual (this guide).

Again, after selecting, please click on the Apply button at the bottom right of the page.

3. How is this information useful to me?

If you hover your cursor over the column headings (e.g. Reading, Attention, Working Memory etc.) you will see brief pop-up comments. These explain what each module is about and how low scores (bands 1 and 2) might affect your students’ studies. See below for an example:

You can find guides which summarise good inclusive practice for students with disabilities, health conditions and specific learning differences on our website at

We welcome your input and feedback on these.
