PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

What a great way to start the New Year, than with a social BBQ at Steve Medcraft’s home. It was also great to see a prospective member in Nicole Buffet attend. Nicole is President of the French Association in Melbourne and has just moved to Point Cook. She has indicated to me that she will be there on Wednesday with a friend so please make her feel welcome.

This week is the Australia Day Breakfast at SeabrookPrimary School, which will take the place of our meeting on Wednesday 26th January. We need to be there by 8.30am at the latest to help set up and start to prepare the breakfast. As proceedings start at 9.00 am we need as many members there as possible during this time as there are many tasks to do during this time and only 30 minutes to do it in. Remember many hands make light work. This is an important project for the club and the community as a whole, so let’s make an effort to be there and help us make this another successful event run by our club.

Please note that on Wednesday 23rd of February 2011, there will be a cluster meeting with all the clubs in our cluster to be held at Wyndham’s venue, the Italian Social Club. At my cluster meeting last Thursday night we all decided to make this night a fundraiser for the flood victims of Australia and with this in mind friends and family are more than welcome to attend. 2010 Australian of the Year, Patrick McGorry AM has agreed to be our speaker on the night, He has just been appointed by the Queensland Government to advice and help people get over the mental stresses put on family’s during this time of lose to property and business. The cost for the night was set at $40 a single or $75 a couple, so for all the single members if you team up with another member you will get it at the $75 price, it is a little dearer than a normal meeting but all the profits on the night will be going towards the floods so please make an effort to book in for this night when the time comes. This is a great chance for all members to mix with your fellow Rotarians from the Port Phillip Cluster, while helping the victims of this tragedy.

We are also looking for prizes for a monster raffle on the night so if any members have any contacts at local businesses where they can ask for prizes it would be gratefully appreciated by the cluster.

The more prizes there are the more tickets people will buy and the money we can make for the flood victims in all states.

Well that’s all for this week,

Remember the Rotary International theme for this year of “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”, and our club theme “Be out be seen”, so let’s work together and have fun.

Michael Nash
