District 5190 Social Media Best Practices

  • Keep your posts up to date, fresh and exciting.
  • Tag people in pictures (it will go to their newsfeeds so all their friends will see it).
  • Don’t use too many words; most people will scroll past those posts.
  • The experts say post 3-4 times a day-- try at least once a day and check your insights to see if people are engaged.
  • Encourage club members to “Like”, “Share”, and “Comment” on the clubs posts. That will get it out to more newsfeeds.
  • Encourage club members to “Like” other Rotary Clubs and Districts pages. You can get great videos, pictures and stories and share on your page.
  • Have at least two administrators on your page. Three or four is even better.
  • Upload a photo of your visitors for each meeting on your page, tag them. If they aren’t a member of Rotary it makes them feel more valuable and perhaps they will become a member. If they are from another club, it heightens their experience when visiting your club.
  • Upload a photo of the speaker at the meeting, tag them. All their friends will see it and say “What is Rotary & why did you speak there?” Remember speakers are potential members.
  • Make your cover picture of the members.
  • Make your profile picture of a Rotary Wheel or the current Rotary Theme.
  • Have a new member, upload their picture and tag them.
  • Have a new Paul Harris, upload their picture and tag them.
  • Create an EVENT, not another page for your fundraisers and special events, and then invite not only members, but your friends.
  • Highlight a member each week or month: Share their vocation, post a picture of them and their family tell a brief story about them and why they joined Rotary. This is also a membership retention tool, membership recruitment tool, and a vocational service tool.
  • Most of all, pictures of people, I can’t not stress that enough. People like seeing people.

If you need help or have a question please contact Stacy L. Graham at or (530) 559-6928. I am also willing to come and speak at your club about Social Media.
