SYNOPSIS:

Trevor is a young man on the rise. Third year law student at the top of his class, dating a beautiful young woman, yet, he can’t seem to shake “those” feelings…Taylor is a recently freed killer who is trying to piece his life back together. So what do these two have in common? Bad Mama’s. In the second edition of this series these Momma’s boys are bad news. After years of incarceration at the state mental hospital, Taylor returns home. While at the same time in the Big Apple seemingly normal Trevor snaps when he is attacked by a mugger. Now these two different men are locked into courses of action that neither wants, but both end in bloodshed.

Combining the talents of two up and coming filmmakers – Matt Terzian and Ryan Rossell comes this riveting look at the what happens when Mommy loves you just a little bit too much and then sets you loose upon the world….

STORY:

Fascinated by the world of compulsive behavior, schizophrenia and capitalizing on a recent mugging comes this collaboration where alcoholism, murder, sacrifice and love come together to form one twisted story. Taking the ideas that different people living completely different lives could suffer from the same type of problems brought the project from an idea to fruition. Using diverse locales like the wide open New Mexico and Joshua Tree to the claustrophobic confines of New York City heightened the sense that anything can happen. Both sets of ideas locked into the examination of what happens during the human experience, putting a magnifying glass onto the ideas that rumble through our subconscious, where it starts, how we are conditioned. From early childhood when our mothers sustain and nurture us in an ideal world, but where early neglect or abuse can ignite an ugly darkness that turns us into monsters.

Shooting in 24P HD gave the look a crisp, clean look and reduced the set-up time which allowed the actors more time for spontaneity. The small size of the cameras allowed the actors to give even better performances. Casting was complex trying to secure fresh, “cheap talent” who also had the ability to pull off performances on tight shooting schedules with seasoned “vets” who could potentially blow them off screen. What you find are nuanced, yet intensely powerful performances by all the actors across the board.

Making movies has turned into a business of emulation, rather than a process of creation. The mindset is: what has worked before will work again and will likely be profitable, as many high-grossing summer blockbusters have demonstrated. Many films are ‘safe’ or cookie-cutter: The good guy gets the girl and the bad guy dies. But independent filmmakers must separate themselves from this. Filmmaking is a lost art form and the question, “Where is the art?" is too often asked in cinema today.

The objective in this collaboration is to create and convey innovative, compelling ideas that keep the audience thinking and guessing. Relying less on special effects, guns and over the top emoting and focusing more on dialogue, storytelling, relationships, and how we all relate.

Finally it is the intention to make the audience think not only about the situations on screen, but also about themselves and their interactions with people every day—what would they do in these situations? Would they make the same decisions? Those who view the work will experience diverse ideas brimming with intriguing characters, plot twists and gripping intensity—elements that are exciting aspects in both filmmaking and film viewing.
