The patented Thermolite Window System is a one-of-a-kind alternative to traditional replacement windows. This 100 percent customized window system is designed to provide superior protection against bomb blast, radio frequency intrusion, and hurricanes while reducing noise, sealing the building envelope and preserving historic architectural integrity.
The system is installed quickly, from the building interior using a process that provides discreet and non-intrusive installation. Many systems can be installed during evening or off-peak hours for your convenience and security.

1.4   SUBMITTALS

A.   Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

B.   Product Data: For each specified product.

1.   Frame Materials: Materials, profiles, sizes, construction, and finishes.

2.   Glass and Glazing Materials: Materials, thickness, construction, and performance.

C.   Shop Drawings: Shop drawings signed and sealed by a Registered Professional Engineer, licensed in Project jurisdiction.

1.   Show coordination of windows and supporting structure with existing and new construction.

2.   A minimum of 10 business days in addition to time required by the Project General Conditions is required for consultant review of shop drawings and calculations.

3.   Required for each design submittal for the project.

D.   Design Calculations: Design analysis calculations signed and sealed by a professional engineer licensed to verify conformance to specified criteria. The submission of calculations is required for each design submittal for the project.

E.   Narrative: A design narrative with a clear table of contents listing all assumptions and clearly cross referenced and fully coordinated with the design calculations and shop drawings for each submission. The submission of narratives is required for each design submittal for the project.

F.   Qualification Data: Submit qualifications verifying years of experience: include list of completed projects having similar scope of work identified by name, location, reference names and phone numbers.

G.   Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square representing actual product, color, and patterns.

1.5   QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.   Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.

B.   Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.

1.   Installer to be certified by the manufacturer.

C.   Professional Engineer: Licensed in Project jurisdiction. Experienced in designing blast resistant windows and window anchorage to building structure.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

D.   Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship. Mock up typical window installation or each window type as determined by the Architect.

1.   Finish areas designated by Architect.

2.   Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.

3.   Remodel mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

4.   Accepted mock-up may remain as part of the Work.

1.6   PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

A.   Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A.   Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

B.   Storage and Protection: Store materials protected from exposure to harmful environmental conditions and at temperature and humidity conditions recommended by the manufacturer.

C.   Exercise care to prevent damage to glass and damage/deterioration to coating on glass.

D.   Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.8   PROJECT CONDITIONS

A.   Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.9   SEQUENCING

A.   Coordinate work with that of all construction contractors affecting or affected by work of this Contract. Cooperate with such contractors to assure the steady progress of the Work.

B.   Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.10   WARRANTY

A.   Manufacturer's written 5 year limited material warranty from date of manufacture for defective materials.

1.   Two-year limited warranty against defective workmanship.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1   MANUFACTURERS

2.2   PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Second option assumes 1 inch (25 mm) thick, 1.4 inch (6 mm) dual pane, clear, insulating glass for prime window. Computer modeling for actual project conditions is available on request.

It is the only one made in the United States that uses dynamic loading to accomplish the objective of keeping glass from penetrating into the building. The other dynamic product is made in Israel and all other products simply place a rigid body into the window and heavily reinforce the window and wall opening. Our window requires the least amount of anchoring in the world and is patent protected in the USA and EU. Delete article if not required.

2.3   INTERIOR RETROFIT BLAST RESISTANT WINDOW SYSTEM

A.   Basis of Design: Safety Series 2000 as manufactured by Therm-O-Lite Inc., South Bend, IN.

B.   Performance Requirements:

1.   Conform to more stringent of specified AAMA standards.

2.   Windows and anchors to resist 6 lbs per sq in (27.6 kPa) pressure, 42 lbs per sq in-msec (193 kPa-msec) impulse, blast load and other specified loads.

a.   ASTM F 1642: Minimal hazard response.

b.   GSA TS01-2003: Level 2 protection.

c.   ISC Security Design Criteria, dated September 29, 2010 Rating: Minimum 3b performance.

d.   Mullion End Rotation: Maximum 2 degrees (L/60) in response to applied blast pressures.

e.   Design window components with allowable stresses equal to material yield capacity.

f.   Design anchors with minimum 1.5 factor of safety relative to ultimate capacity.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Our Hurricane Window System's patented design is made to hold up to hurricane winds- protecting your building and all its resources. The System easily installs on the inside of the building and will secure your building. We have been tested for large and small impacts and meet the strictest building codes in the country up to category 5 and we even have developed a FEMA 361 product to withstand 250 mph (402 kph).
