1.5   QUALITY ASSURANCE

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** FraserWood RF Dry Timbers are perfect for structural and architectural applications in timber frame houses, resorts, lodges and any other project that require timbers to remain straight, stable and beautiful for years to come. FraserWood RF Dry timbers minimize checking, twisting, cupping, bowing and messy pitch leaks when compared to conventionally kiln-dried and green timbers.

1.5.1   Drying Process: Timbers are dried using FraserWood RF Dry radio frequency vacuum kiln drying process.

1.5.1.1   Simultaneously subject timbers to radio frequency waves and vacuum.

1.5.1.2   Dry timbers completely through to the core.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Choose required product moisture content below and delete the product moisture content not required (19% or 15%).

1.5.1.3   Moisture Content: Maximum moisture content: 19% for FraserWood RF Dry. The moisture content of every piece is measured using a Delmhorst J-2000 or equivalent.

1.5.1.4   Moisture Content: Maximum moisture content: 15% for FraserWood RF Dry15. The moisture content of every piece is measured using a Delmhorst J-2000 or equivalent.

1.6   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1.6.1   Timbers to be delivered undamaged with manufacturer's standard protective paper wrap in place. Repair or replace damaged coverings immediately.

1.6.2   Store timbers in well-drained area, elevated off ground or floor, with space between units to allow for air circulation.

1.6.3   Leave temporary wrap in place until ready for installation, or store timbers in protected, dry area if wrap is removed.

1.7   PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.7.1   Store timbers in environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) similar to final installed conditions.

2.1.3   Substitutions: Not permitted.

2.1.4   Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements.

2.2   MATERIALS

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Timber specified using default values of WCLIB. Delete if not required.

2.2.1   Heavy Timber Members: As specified, timbers are dried using FraserWood RF Dry radio frequency vacuum process.

2.2.1.1   Testing and Certification: Upon request, the manufacturer shall provide grade certification for all material provided under this section including mill identification, grade name, and inspection certificate.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete options for moisture content not required.

2.2.1.2   Moisture Content: All product supplied under this Section shall be dry to a maximum of 19% moisture content.

2.2.1.3   Moisture Content: All product supplied under this Section shall be dry to a maximum of 15% moisture content.

2.2.1.4   Moisture Content: All product supplied under this Section shall be dry to a maximum of ___ moisture content.

2.2.1.5   Timber must be certified to meet the requirements of this specification at the time of shipping.

2.2.1.6   For purposes of this standard, the moisture content will be demonstrated by using a standard moisture meter with pins driven to depth in the middle third of the timber by length.

2.2.1.7   Upon reasonable notice, the Engineer of Record, or such person as the EOR designates, shall be allowed access to the timbers at the site or facility for fabrication to test the timbers' moisture content.

2.2.1.7.1   Species: Douglas Fir.

2.2.1.7.8   Surface Finish: Bandsawn.

2.2.1.7.9   Surface Finish: Sandblasted.

2.2.1.7.10   Surface Finish: Circular Sawn.

2.2.1.7.11   Nylon brush the above surface to remove loose fibers and create depth between growth rings.

3 EXECUTION

3.1   EXAMINATION

3.1.1   Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

3.1.2   If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2   PREPARATION

3.2.1   Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

3.2.2   Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3   INSTALLATION

3.3.1   Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.

3.4   PROTECTION

3.4.1   Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
