Disclosure Statement for Jewelry Making I

Welcome to Jewelry Making. Designing and creating jewelry can help you as a student improve observation skills, enhance creativity, develop eye hand coordination, and improve design skills. Jewelry Making is part of the Art Department and counts as Fine Art Credit.

Expectations:

Students will be expected to: Attend class regularly, be on time, follow safety rules, always wear eye protection,participate in class discussions and art critiques,be prepared for class,obey school policies, follow classroom rules, anduse class time to work on Jewelry assignments. No hats or cell phones are allowed in class.

-Participation & clean-up (failing to clean results in a 25 point loss per day)

. The students must wear their safety glasses at all times in the shop or they will not be allowed to work. If the student does not have a pair of safety glasses they must checkout a pair from the tool room in order to work that day. Safety violations: ---1st offense; loss shop privileges or points. ---2nd offense; written assignment & call to parents, loss of points & shop privileges& given a written assignment,---3rd offense; removed from class until a meeting with administrator, parents, and teacher can be arranged to see if student should be allowed back into class

Percentage grading standards:100-94= A 93-90=A- 89-87=B+ 86-83=B 82-80 =B- 79-77=C+ 76-73=C

72-70=C- 69-67=D+ 66-63=D 62-60=D- Below 60 =F

Late Work:Late work will be given a 10% deduction per school day (A or B – doesn’t matter – any school day counts). After five school days, no work will be accepted.Most projects do not have due dates. This applies to the few that do. Most assignments in class have no due date. The 50 designs and disclosure are the only two assignments with due dates. All other projects will have until the last week of the quarter to be completed and turned in to Mr. Larsen.

Make-up: Students will be allowed to make up work for excused absences. Students need to contact Mr. Larsen to make arrangements to catch up on assignments (up to 5 days to make up any missed period). Make up for un- excused absences is not allowed (truancies can NOT be made up – District Policy).

E.O.Hour:The Educational Opportunity Houris an opportunity to work on class assignments or catch up onwork if the student has fallen behind. You can find me in room 253 during EO.

TruancyPermission from Mr. Larsen and a hall pass or note is required before leaving the classroom.

Hall Pass:The hall pass is available for students who are on time and have not misused or abused it in the past.

School Property

Destruction of school property will not be tolerated. Restitution Fines and or referral to the administration will be the result of students who damage, deface, or destroy school property. Don’t carve into or graffiti the table tops or work benches. Don’t break tools, fire brick or equipment. Do respect and take care of the equipment we have here at Weber High. You will be held responsible for damages.

Supplies: The bare essentials cost of this class is $20.00 for the fee and $3.50 for the safety glasses, unless the student supplies the glasses from home. For the $20.00 fee each student will receive the specific materials to make the required projects in brass, nickel, or copper, depending on the particular project. It is of course also required that they do well on the other assignments like bookwork, written & design projects, cleanup and participation.Students may purchaseadditional items from the cashierbefore and after school, or during lunch. Mr. Larsen will need to see the receipt. You cannot pay cashier during class time.

All students will be required to provide and wear their own pair of safety glasses They may purchase them from the cashier or they can bring them from home (Safety glasses may be purchased through the school for $3.50, pay cashier in office & bring receipt to class)

Jewelry Fee $20.00 Pay cashier in the Office.

In order for the student to begin to work in the lab they will need to bring their receipt for the $20.00 feeand their own pair of safety glasses or a receipt for $3.50for a new pair of safety glasses to class.

Storage: Students are responsible for the storage of their own jewelry supplies & materials.

Tardy– Students who are tardy to class will be given an extra cleaning duty for the day.
