Introduction

Firstly, thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Leonard Cheshire Disability Cycle Together event. The event can only succeed with the hard work and valuable contribution from the volunteer team.

This information has been compiled to give you all the information you need to become part of the Cycle Together Team. It introduces the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, our volunteer team needs, the event, training and what to do next. Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to meeting you on the day.

The Charity

At Leonard Cheshire Disability, we work for a society in which every person is equally valued. We believe that disabled people should have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose - with the opportunity and support to live independently, to contribute economically, and to participate fully in society.

Leonard Cheshire Disability supports thousands of disabled people both in the UK and in more than 50 other countries. We help people with physical impairments, learning difficulties and long-term health conditions, as well as their carers, friends and families.

The needs and aspirations of disabled people are at the heart of what we do. By providing services and helping everyone to understand disability and combat discrimination, we aim to remove the barriers that can stop people with disabilities from pursuing their goals and living their lives to the full.

We’re always innovating too, developing support for many thousands more disabled people through education and employment, digital inclusion and sporting opportunities.

Each riders entry fee includes a small donation to the charity and we ask that everyone trys to raise at least £50 to help disabled guests and their carers enjoy a holiday at our unique respite hotel, Park House,at Sandringham.

£30would give four guests a minibus outing to one of Norfolk's tourist attractions;£50would fund an outing for six guests; and£250would help finance a week's stay at Park House for just one disabled person who would otherwise not be able to afford this.

The riders will hopefully help us raise thousands of pounds to support thousands of disabled people, but by volunteering in Cycle Together you too are part of this.

The Event

Cycle Together is a fully inclusive cycle event which takes in Norfolk's quiet roads and picturesque villages.

With four scenic routes to choose from this cycle is perfect for everyone from beginners to experienced sportive cyclists. Choose from a 10 mile, 20 mile, 50 mile or 90 mile challenge with all routes starting and finishing at Park House Hotel on the historic Sandringham Estate.

The 10 and 20 mile routes are family friendly and ideal for disabled people who want to take part on handcycles, tandems, trikes or adapted cycles.

Entry is only £10 for the 10 mile route, £15 for the 20 mile route, £25 for the 50 mile route and £30 for the 100 mile route. It is a day out for all the family with under 16s going free when accompanied by adults.

Disabled Volunteers

We welcome disabled and non-disabled volunteers. However, due to the nature of the event not all roles are suitable for disabled volunteers, for example if you have mobility impairment. Please let us know in advance of any special requirements you might have and we will do our best to assign you a role that accommodates these requirements.

Training & Free Stuff

We will provide volunteers with an email briefing for the event approx. 1-2 weeks before Cycle Together.

On the day, we will provide you with free food and drink to make sure you are fully energized for the day ahead (it’s not only riders who need energy!) and all volunteers will also receive a certificate to take home.

What to do next
