Site based consultations available
We recognise that each of the clubs and activity centres run different activities, on different sites, with different clients, different needs etc. To help centres specifically with thinking around how to adapt the wider variety of activities at their centre, the tutors are available to do half day (up to 3 hour) consultation sessions at sites.
The cost for this is £50 per half day, which has been subsidised by Hampshire’s Aiming High for Disabled Children programme, to ensure Hampshire’s outdoor activities can be accessible for all. This will need to be booked in advance. The clubs and centres that had consultation days last year found this highly beneficial.

Feedback from those that attended previous Calvert Trust training:

Nick Liley and his team delivered some excellent training last year. The staff from Calvert have a wealth of experience to draw upon and this really shows when it comes to the real practical advice and the training they deliver. The centre based consultations will help you look back and evaluate what you are trying to achieve with your special needs groups and then give you a strategy to deliver those objectives, very worthwhile.

Mike Jones - Operations Manager, Calshot Activities Centre

The training available last year was key to us successfully establishing and running both paddleabilitiy and sailability clubs at SWAC and Woodmill. It provided the staff with the key skills to operate safely and understand people’s needs and to provide the management team confidence in the product and delivery team.

Dan Jordan - Assistant Operations Manager, Woodmill

Course was amazing! It really opened my eyes to what brilliantindividualscan do and more with Calvert Trust tool ideas and positive guidance.

Rebecca Thomas – Freelance Instructor

The Generic Disability Training day was extremely useful and this has made be consider choice of language and structure when delivering activity sessions.

We looked at the use of a climbing hoist, this has been very popular with some of our groups with disabilities and opened up new doors for them and us!

Ben Lidstone-Scott – Senior Instructor, Calshot Activities Centre

The Disability Awareness training provided by Hampshire County Council and the Calvert trust gave us the additional skills, understanding and more importantly the confidence to make all of our activities accessible to everyone with a sense of adventure. The overall program took into account the needs of outdoor centers by providing a generic day and subsequent industry specific days; this meant we could focus in on what we really needed as an outdoor centre. The use of the Calvert Trust (who in my opinion are industry experts in the safe delivery of adventure sports to people with disabilities) added value and credibility to the programs as they spoke with years of experience and the qualifications to back their training.

This program is a must do for instructors, care workers and teachers wanting to expand their knowledge or who are already working with making adventure accessible to all.

Tony Baker – Chief Instructor, Avon Tyrrell Activities Centre
