Director, Spiritual Life

YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly is a year-round conference center for groups of teens, families and children, and adults. We are located in Black Mountain, NC on 1,200 acres of forested woodland. We provide a Christian atmosphere for guests and staff to focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Director of Spiritual Life functions within the Mission Impact Team, working closely with Program Services and other departments. The team is led by the VP, Mission Impact.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Seminary degree preferred.
  • Solid experience in volunteer coordination, college or youth civic engagement, ministry leadership, event planning
  • The candidate should exhibit a passion for community based service through their work in any of the following; Church staff, service internships, agency and non -profit work, leadership in volunteer programs.
  • Professional demeanor and the ability to work well with staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partner organizations.The capacity to develop and maintain meaningful relationships at various levels inside and outside the organization is essential for success.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Motivation and commitment to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Leadership style that is approachable, genuine and solution oriented.
  • Professional image and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of the YMCA and upholding its values and ethics.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Campus minister to staff and guests. This translates into regular staff devotions, meaningful connections with our staff,and leadership for special events.
  • Service Leadership.Blue Ridge has developed a service learning, civic engagement program. Through partnerships with area agencies and non-profits, we provide an opportunity for youth and college students to participate in meaningful community service. As director of this important program, the candidate will maintain and further enhance our impact in surrounding communities. A necessary component of this work is the relationship with the students in facilitating their service learning experience. In 2017, we hosted almost 600 youth and college age students as well as adults, providing over 9000 volunteer hours in service to our communities.
  • Conferences and events.The candidate will take a proactive role in maintaining and growing conferences that have an intentional spiritual dynamic. This role, as does each role, asks that the candidate function well as a team member and leader.
  • Intern/staff supervision and program development.The candidate will take a lead role in assisting/guiding interns in their professional and personal development.
  • Cultivating a spirit of cooperation and teamwork throughout the organization.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting Salary of$33,000 - $37,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience
  • Eligible for YMCA Retirement Fund after two years: YMCA Blue Ridge contributes an amount equal to 12% of gross pay to the fund at no cost and without any matching requirement.
  • Free family membership to the Y of WNC, after a 90-day review period.
  • Health insurance and vacation/sick days provided after 90-day review period.
