DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

The New Albany-Plain Local Schools, a high performing school district in Central Ohio, seeks a Director of Teaching and Learning to lead the development, implementation, and coordination of the district’s instructional and curriculum services, professional development, testing and assessments, gifted education, and federal/state grants programs (CCIP). This position will be responsible for promoting an effective learning environment and serve as a key member of the district leadership team.

Position Description

The Director of Teaching and Learning will demonstrate skill, expertise and leadership in the following areas:

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development/Evaluation –

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum for all K-12 course offerings to advance the district’s written, implemented, and assessed curricula and mandated proficiencies.
  • Oversee new and existing educational programs using professional learning communities as a vehicle to provide staff support.
  • Direct the continual improvement of the district’s instructional programs and develop a strategy to implement indentified objectives within specified timelines.
  • Supervise the district’s K-12 student testing and assessment program.

Instruction –

  • Provide leadership for the assessment of current educational and instructional practices, and make recommendations to district administrators to improve educational programs and ensure alignment with state standards.
  • Monitor all district professional development.
  • Provide an organized, consistent, useful body of research information for school professionals to use to improve instructional practices and achieve the district’s goals of excellence.

Teacher/Staff Development –

  • Establish and direct a system that will assess needs and provide professional growth opportunities for teachers/staff.
  • CoordinateProfessionalDevelopmentSchool activities to align with the Strategic Plan and curriculum revision cycle.
  • Establish contacts with colleges, universities, and other professional development agencies to develop resources to meet staff development needs.

Staff Evaluation –

  • Coordinate implementation of the district’s instructional improvement evaluation program.
  • Assist in decisions related to the assignment, transfer, and reappointment of staff.

In addition to extensive experience, expertise in education, and leading collaborative change, the Director of Teaching and Learning should possess knowledge and/or experience in some of the following areas:

  • Recent school reform initiatives such as Race to the Top, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, New Teacher Project, Battelle for Kids, Knowledge Works, etc.
  • International education, PISA, TIMMS, International Baccalaureate, international schools, etc.
  • Quality Improvement or Efficiency systems or organizations such as Baldridge or TQM.
  • Extensive data analysis and use of the statistical information to engage staff for improving student learning.
