ENTRY FORMS

·  All entries must be made on the Official Entry Form and be received by the organisers by midnight on Friday 13th November 2015. NO ENTRIES CAN BE ACCEPTED AFTER THAT DATE.

·  No responsibility is accepted for entries delayed in the post, received late or insufficiently stamped.

·  Competitors should ensure that their entry form is correctly and clearly filled in.

·  Receipt of a completed entry form implies acceptance of the rules. The organisers reserve the right to legislate on any point arising which is not provided for in these rules.

RULES & CONDITIONS

·  Competitors must be at least 13 years old, and under the age of 19 on 01/09/2015.

·  Competitors must live in or attend secondary school within the London Borough of Brent boundaries.

·  Performers on instrument or voice should be approximately MINIMUM Grade 4 or above standard or equivalent.

·  The official entry form must be countersigned by the Head of Music of the competitor’s school or their instrumental/vocal teacher.

AUDITION SERIES

·  Auditions will be held to find the 6 competitors who will compete for the Brent Young Musician of the Year Final. Auditions will be held during the week commencing 7th December 2015.

·  You will be allocated an audition at your chosen venue if possible, but this is not guaranteed. Your time will be between 5.30pm and 9pm.

·  The audition panel will consist of senior members of staff from Brent Music Service

·  Competitors will be limited to a maximum of 5 minutes total performance time.

·  Competitors are responsible for providing their own accompaniment (including accompanist) as necessary, whether live or recorded. ALL AUDITIONS (other than piano, harp etc.) MUST BE ACCOMPANIED.

·  A piano or keyboard tuned to concert pitch and a CD player will be available for competitors to use.

·  Written feedback will be sent to each competitor.

BRENT YOUNG MUSICIAN

OF THE YEAR 2016

The aim of this competition is to celebrate the wealth of musical talent of young people in Brent. The competition is sponsored by Wembley Charitable Foundation and organised by Brent Music Service.

The final will be held at a venue in Brent on Wednesday 2nd March 2016 at 7.00pm, when the six finalists from the audition series will perform their selected piece/s in front of an invited audience.

PRIZES

1st place £400.00 + The Len Williams Memorial Trophy + the opportunity to perform solo at the ‘Brent Makes Music’ Concert at Wembley Arena in July 2016

2nd place £250.00

3rd place £150.00

As the competition is organised in line with the aims and objectives of Wembley Charitable Foundation, the prize money can only be used for the further musical education of the prize winners. Allowable use of the prize money includes assistance with the purchase of an instrument, attendance at holiday courses or to purchase of a series of extra lessons. The cheque will only be made payable to a recognised teacher, course organiser or instrument retailer. Cheques cannot be made out to the competitor.

ADJUDICATION PANEL

A panel of adjudicators will judge the final of the Brent Young Musician of The Year. This panel will consist of professionals from the education, classical and pop world of music

The decision of the adjudicators is final and no further correspondence or discussion will be possible.

Competitors will need to supply a copy of their piece or pieces for each of the adjudicators. Photocopies are allowed, but will be destroyed after the event.
