Stone Mountain Visitor Center

891 Main St, Stone Mountain, GA 30083

(We park in the Village, not inside the Park.)

DIRECTIONS TO STONE MOUNTAIN:

If you are coming from Midtown or Buckhead, take Ponce de Leon / US 78 past Fernbank Museum. As you continue East on US 78, Ponce de Leon becomes Scott Blvd and then Stone Mountain Highway.

[Alternatively, take I-285 to the East Side of Atlanta and take Exit 39B for

US 78 East (Snellville and Athens)/Stone Mountain Freeway/Highway/Parkway.]

After passing the Mountain Industrial exit off of US 78, get into the far Right lane.

Look for signs for Village of Stone Mountain/Highway 10.

Take Exit 5 for Highway 10 – Village of Stone Mountain to the Right.

Stay in that Right Lane.

Take the next Exit - East Ponce de Leon /Village of Stone Mountain – to the Right.

At the end of the exit ramp, turn Left on East Ponce de Leon toward the Village.

East Ponce de Leon becomes Main Street after the First Light (at James B. Rivers Drive).

After 3 more blocks you will see the old train Depot on the right and then, after a cross street,

the Visitor Center (a train caboose!) and the police station are on your LEFT.

Park in the parking lot between the Visitor Center and the police station.

WALKING DIRECTIONS:

On the PATH beside the Visitor Center, walk toward the mountain and enter the Park.

Turn Right on Robert E Lee Boulevard. (Notice where you are. This is where you will need to turn to exit the park after your walk. It is near an old railroad overpass.)

For a 3-mile walk, turn around about 200 yards past the intersection with Stonewall Jackson Dr on the right, and return to the starting point. If you miss the landmark, just turn around after walking for 30 minutes. The left turn to exit the park is just before you walk under the old railroad overpass.

For a 5.3 or 10.3 mile walk, continue on Robert E Lee Blvd around the mountain (once or twice) returning to where you entered the park (just past the old railroad overpass, a right turn).

[Alternative: For an 8-mile route with a very big “hill,” just before completing one lap around the mountain – where Mountain Street enters the park, take the trail up to the top of the mountain and back down, and then complete the lap around the mountain.]

Exit the Park and proceed back along the PATH to the Visitor Center parking lot.
