Winter Gift
Directions: The following table includes 9 different assignments with varying point values that you can choose from to complete. The center box MUST be done, but the other assignments you may choose from to earn your points. The total Love Package project is worth a maximum of 100 points. How you choose to accomplish or work towards that 100 points is up to you. This means that you can do any combination of the assignments with the exception that each type of assignment can only be done once. There is no limit to how many of the assignments you choose to do. For example, if you choose to do every single assignment listed, and you manage to earn full credit for each assignment, the maximum number of points you can earn for the entire Love Package project will be 100 points. Please check off which assignments you have selected to do, and then staple this handout on top of all of your work.
Read 4 different articles (of substance, please nothing wimpy or inconsequential) and If you are a junior, complete a SOAPSTone for each. If you are a senior, do a dialectical journal of three quotes for each of the articles. Magazines to choose from:Newsweek, Time, The

20 points / You are a food critic--Write about a restaurant in which you dine. Include a description and evaluation of the meal and a photo. Remember to include the service and the atmosphere (1 page)—cannot be a coffee house, yogurt shop—NO FAST FOOD!
10 points / Read the latest issue of the New Yorker or Atlantic Monthly, cover to cover. Type a one-page reflection on what you notice about the style and content of one of the more memorable articles.

Seniors: Read the story Tristan and Iseult
60 points / Get together with another colleague(s) and celebrate the new year by recording a live performance of a holiday song. Sing, play an instrument, maybe dance. Try to capture your performance on video and bring it to class. You can do this at home or abroad.
Turn in a video of the performance. One per group is fine. Write a reflection.

Go to a museum in Germany and find a painting, sculpture or other piece of art. Sit in front of it and write a description of it, including how the painting makes you feel. You may write in German—if you dare. Visit the Broad Contemporary Art Museum at LACMA. Write a 1-2 page description of your experience. Mention specific works and your reactions to them. Attach a ticket stub and a picture of you in front of the museum. It’s a fun place to take a date! ;)
20 points / Go out of your way to do something kind for someone. You could do this at home, or on your travels. (i.e. parents, siblings, homeless) during these holidays. Write a 1 page reflection.
10 points / Read something fun that YOU want to read. Read, read, read! Flip through a magazine. Or read a book that you would be embarrassed to admit you want to read. The possibilities are endless! Write a 1 page review of what you’ve read.
