Directions for Early American Short Story Project

·  Finish your story over the weekend: annotate for important plot points in the story, write questions if you need to, underline key quotes.

·  Meet in groups on Mon 9/12 and make sure everyone understands the story – ask me about any questions that you can’t answer as a group.

o  Decide how your group wants to present the story to the class: tableau, radio play, puppet show, story book, slide show (overhead)

o  You will need to make a poster to share with the class:

§  Tell us about the author

§  List major themes that you found in the story and what we can learn (values)

§  Answer one of the essential questions that applies to the story

·  What is an American (according to the story)?

·  What is the role of religion in the story?

·  What is the best relationship between an individual and govt.?

·  What is the purpose of government according to the story?

o  Begin dividing the story into scenes of the major plot points and tailoring it to your method of presentation.

·  We will meet in groups on Tues and Wed to continue working on your project – we will present as groups on Thurs 9/15 – everyone needs to be involved in an aspect of your presentation. You will receive a 4 pt grade based off of your evidence of understanding the reading, presentation, preparation.
