Please Read and Follow These Directions
*Step 1:Apply for admission (credit application) to Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (DSLCC) in a Financial Aid approved curriculum.
*Step 2: Make sure that your contact information is up to date in Student Information System (SIS) by logging into Blackboard.
*Step 3:Apply for financial aid at using the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Use school code 004996 to have it sent to DSLCC.
*Step 4:Submit upon request, if selected, all paperwork necessary to complete verification of your FAFSA.
*Step 5: Plan to enroll in and actively participate in at least 6 credits (half-time) for the semester(s) in which you wish to take out a loan. This step must be maintained in order for loans to be disbursed.
*Step 6: Complete the Loan Request form below. The form is also available at Click Admissions & Aid, click Financial Aid, then click Financial Aid Forms. Click on 2017-2018Loan Request Form. Return your form to the Financial Aid office ASAP.
*Step 7: Go to sign in, and click on the “Complete Master Promissory Note” link, and click on the Subsidized/Unsubsidized link to complete your master promissory note. After you submit your MPN, click on the “view pdf” link and then click print and select current page or page 1 to print page 1 of your MPN.
*Step 8: Go to sign in, and click on the “Complete Entrance Counseling” link. Complete your online entrance counseling session. After you click the Submit Counseling button, click the E-Mail button (located under Summary Tools) and enter as the E-Mail address, then click the E-Mail Summary button to email your confirmation page to the Financial Aid office. If you have had student loans before, you may complete the “Financial Awareness Counseling” and print your confirmation page.
*Step 9: Complete In-Person Loan Counseling (60-minute sessions). Dates and times will be sent to your VCCS student email. Your email can be accessed by visiting and clicking “MyDabney.” Once you are able to log in, you should click “Gmail.” If you have trouble accessing your email, please call 540-863-2911.
*Step 10: Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). The SAP policy is available at

Second Step: Determine your dependency status (Dependent/Independent).
Third Step:Either (1) check the semesters that you plan to attend and write in the loan amount(s) that you wish to receive for each semester or (2) if you only want enough to cover your charges, check the second box indicating that you wish to borrow the “exact amount”:

∙ Independent Freshman - maximum amount per semester is $4,750.
