Different types of Dune buggies

Introduction: Riding dune buggies is a fun experience and good past time.

Do you have a passion or hobbies with working on dune buggies on the weekends or after work?

Riding dune buggies in the woods gives you good experience for riding around trees and learning how to climb hills. Climbing hills is more for Woods Buggies because you have your torsion bar setup up a little high so you get over bumps and stumps. Your torsion is also set up for jumping creek banks.

Riding dune buggies in the desert is also fun and a good experience for jumping sand dunes and also for sliding around. The mostly buggies that are road in the desert is sand rails. Sand rails have different setup and different tires specially for getting grip to sling sand into the air.

Defining dune buggies is pretty easy because their mostly the same the all use the same type of tubular frame because it’s more durable. The frame has better dynamics for more speed. There is another type of dune buggy is a Baja bug you can do the same thing with them as you can the tubular frame ones. You can ride Baja bugs in the desert or in the woods.

There are different types of dune buggies one type of dune buggies is Baja bugs for riding mostly in the woods. It is for most people who don’t won’t to get muddy. Another type is racing buggies for drag racing or racing up hills.

Some more examples is sand rails and woods buggy they both use the same type of frame which is the tubular frame they both have the same torsion bar just has them set up different one his there’s jacked up different. The wood buggy has there’s jacked up for ridding on the trails. The sand rails have there’s lowered for the sand dunes and for slinging sand.

Baja bugs:

The Baja bug has a different look to it is more or less a beetle with a baja suspension under the frame for more durability and more torque.

What makes a Baja bug different from regular bugs is the suspension for more comfort in the woods it has the torsion bar jacked up. The torsion is lowered to the ground for the regular car beetles so you can ride them on the road and for more comfort on the street. In the regular cars is also lowered for drag racing. The tires are different on the back because on the Baja bugs have mud grip on the back for traction so they go just about anywhere. They put tractor tires on the front so they could get more traction for sliding sideways and slinging mud.

The suspension under the Baja bug is the same on any other buggy it has the rough torsion bar under it for adjusting for riding in the woods, road, or desert. There is a adjuster to lower or raise the torsion bar in the bug. The shocks on the Baja bug has to be different for more give so when they jump up in the air so the bug won’t be hurt. The set up differs from what rear-end you put on it. You can put a 6-rib bus in it from out of a Volkswagen bus.

The motor on the woods buggy has to be different because you need a bigger size in the woods so you can race each other and go up big hills faster. The motor on different beetles is small so you can ride around town. You can put a big motor on them but it gets too hot to just ride around and take it easy. If you want to drag race them you have to put a big motor on them. The motor size differs from what stoke u get. They measure the size of the motor from what type of jugs they put on the motor. You can put small 85s o the biggest you can go is 94s but you can bore them out to 104s but you can only climb hills in the because they get hot to quick.

Woods Buggies:

What makes woods buggies different from other buggies is tires front and back. They have different motors and structures of the frames. They have different hubs that have different bolt whole patterns. They have different wheels. They use steel wheels because there more durable and has more strength. So when they jump them they will not bend or crack. They do not use aluminum because the bend to easy and break.

You have to have your torsion jacked up for a woods buggy because you ride In the woods. So you can jump creek banks and ride over stumps and cut down trees. Because you don’t want to drag your bottom and break something because you’re out more money then you spent putting your buggy together. You set your torsion bar up some so your bottom end is not setting on the ground. You have to have two shocks in the back for more give so you won’t bend your Trans axle. The shocks on the Woods Buggies have to be different for more give so when they jump up in the air so you won’t be hurt. The set up differs from what rear-end you put on it. You can put a 6-rib bus in it from out of a Volkswagen bus. You can put a 3-rib bus for less RPMs.

What makes Woods buggies motors different from the others is the motor on the woods buggy has to be different because you need a bigger size in the woods so you can race each other and go up big hills faster.

Rail buggies:

What makes rail buggies different from woods buggies is the tires, suspension, shock setup, and what gears you run. Because you want to run want you want to but a rail buggy is mostly for riding on the roads and drag racing. You can put regular car tires on them to run in the street instead of the mud tires you run on a woods buggy. The suspension or the torsion need to be set at about medium height. Because a woods buggy has to have their torsion set at high level so you can get over trees and stumps. Your shock set up is mostly what shocks you run which are mostly gas shocks. The gears u run depends on what rear end you put in them you can put a 6 rib bus so when you want to go fast at high rpms you can do that. Because in a woods buggy is about the same.

What do you have to have your torsion set to? Which is about medium height so you can drive on the road or you can switch the torsion set up high to run in the woods? But if you want to just ride on the road or drag race you need to have it set about medium height or if you want it to set lower to the ground. You should lower it to get more speed.

The difference between a rail buggies motor than any others is not much difference then what you would use in another buggy. You want to use whatever you want but in the same setup you would probably need a small motor if you want to ride around town.

Sand rails:

What makes a sand rail different from other buggies? What make it different from other buggies is definitely the tires you run because you have to have a special type of tires made for riding on the sand dunes. Another thing is the frame it’s mostly the same but the people use mostly is a frame to seat four. They use different light to because you need a colored lens to see in the dust. Because the other buggies just use the clear lights.

What you need to have your torsion set up to? Well you need it set about medium same as the rail buggies because you really don’t need to get over trees and stumps and most people ride their sand rails on the beach. They ride them on the beach to show off the rides to women.

The motor on the sand rail has to be different. The difference is the size you need a pretty good size motor so you can ride wheelies and jump off the sand dunes. You really need a good size rear end to back that motor up. Like a 6-rib bus rear-end. What makes it 6-rib is the gears in it. So if you want to hammer down you can stand it straight in the air.

Conclusion:

Riding dune buggies is a good experience and fun past time. Baja bugs, woods buggy, rail buggies, and sand rails all these different types of dune buggies. What makes the difference in the frame, motor, and torsion set up. It tells about the size of the motor and the tires and a lot of other stuff. Tells about the different types of rear ends and gears to run in your buggy.
