FANUC Roboshot presents absolute precision injection moulding – KMO, Hall 20, Stand A 5.2

Precision, speed, energy saving, cleanliness, and repeatability with all-electric FANUC Roboshot injection moulding machines

GeKu and HASCO cooperate with FANUC Roboshot during KMO 2006. They demonstrate on their exhibition stands how effectively their know-how is being enhanced through the use of all-electric injection moulding machines of this brand:

-GeKu Automatisierungssysteme GmbH uses a Roboshot 100A (1000 kN) for the production of plugs – with insert moulding function.

-

-HASCO Hasenclever GmbH + Co. KG shows a Roboshot 100A (1000 kN) producing ice scrapers – utilizing a recently patented fully electric needle valve system.

The FANUC Roboshot exhibits in hall 20, stand A 5.2 are characterized by a live production presentation of precision parts. The machines stand out for adherence of tight tolerances, very low energy consumption, reproducibility, cleanliness, low noise level, speed, and hence economy.

50 kN FANUC Roboshot S2000i5A for micro precision injection moulding

Precision injection moulding technology plays a more and more important role among the key plastic technologies. This is why FANUC Roboshot Europe GmbH, Neuhausen, Germany, decided to show their 50 kN injection moulding machine version, a FANUC Roboshot S2000i5A – with 5 tons clamping force the smallest of its kind – ideally suited for micro precision injection moulding. The machine manufactures precision parts for hearing aids on a single-cavity mould. The miniature parts, made of POM, each weigh just 0.1 g. The 14 mm injection unit homogenizes the shot weight of about 0.7 g precisely. Here, the all-electric FANUC CNC drives, operating with total machine tool precision, and the close-loop (feedback) control circuits achieve extremely high process safety, even at short cycle times of less than 8 seconds. The injection speed, one of the most critical parameters, remains constant at all times, with the assistance of the fully automatic CNC drive.

Technical main data of the 50 kN machine:

Platen size 220 x 220 mm, distance between bars 145 x 145 mm, mould height 80 – 160 mm, clamping stroke max. 110 mm, distance between plates max. 270 mm, max. injection volume 6 cm³, max. injection pressure 2,500 bar. The required floor space of the S2000i5A is only 1.83 x 0.61 m. The machine is equipped with the same future orientated CNC concept as the larger FANUC Roboshot machines with clamping forces from 150 kN to 3000 kN.

500 kN all-electric – first class productivity and precision

FANUC Roboshot presents to the KMO 06 visitors the Roboshot S2000i50A. The machine manufactures – in a cycle time of about 19 seconds – precision parts for automotive application, made out of PC (Lexan), where absolute repeatability, short cycle times, and the observation of conditions for mass production in a 24/7 environment are imperative factors. Two different dashboard instrument pointers – only 0.11 and 1.36 grams respectively – including prism and light guiding system come to existence in a 2+2 cavity mould that shows BCR Plastics AG, Grenchen/CH, peak performance in mould making.

Technical main data:

Platen size 460 x 460 mm, distance between bars 320 x 320 mm, mould height 150 – 350 mm, clamping stroke max. 250 mm, distance between plates max. 650 mm, max. injection volume 58cm³ (with 28 mm screw), injection pressure 1,900 bar, max. injection shot 203 ccm/s

Advantages of the S2000i range (clamping forces between 50 and 3000 kN)

Next to their quietness, precision and cleanliness the digital AC servo motors, for example, are distinguished by their extremely high acceleration. This makes the machine considerably faster and hence reduces cycle times and increases output. Clamp force stability across the entire selected range can be increased to an above-average level through the use of a larger ball spindle module. The new 21" touch screen in conjunction with extremely user-friendly graphics display architecture makes the input of operating parameters easier and more straightforward than ever before.

All injection moulding machines are equipped with the same FANUC CNC components for the drive and control systems as featured on state-of-the-art machine tools. Their extremely fast and accurate response in conjunction with artificial intelligence (A.I.) provides the proactive injection moulder a wide choice of functions both for improving process reliability and for shortening cycle times still further.

In addition to the time-tested and approved A.I. pressure profile feedback control system, the iA Series features an intelligent, torque-governed plasticizing control as well as torque-monitored ejector and mould safety mechanisms.

  • The torque-dependent control of the screw speed ensures optimum stability of the plasticizing time and the condition of the melt.
  • The A.I. pressure profile feedback control system compensates possible deviations from the desired viscosity of the melt. It achieves this by accurately reproducing a stored injection pressure profile from the start of injection to the completion of the holding pressure phase, thus ensuring a more constant shot weight and hence considerably improving the quality of moulded part.
  • The highly sensitive A.I. mould safety mechanism responds immediately to resistance as soon as the servo motor torque reaches the set tolerance limit. The closing movement of the mould is stopped immediately, thus protecting the mould against damage and wear.
  • The A.I. ejector mechanism monitors the torque profile during ejection. If the torque requirement deviates from the set value – from a change in injection parameters or from overpacking for example, – the monitoring system responds immediately. This monitoring facility also enables the processor to draw conclusions about various process variables, such as mould filling and cooling behaviour, and to keep effective control of multi-cavity moulds.

FANUC Roboshot Europe GmbH: On December 7 of this year, Fanuc Ltd. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. established a 50/50 joint venture, Fanuc Roboshot Europe GmbH, in Neuhausen, near Stuttgart, Germany. The company continues with sales and service of the Fanuc all-electric injection moulding machines (Roboshot) with effect from January 2006 – an activity that MMTE had carried out successfully up to that point of time.
