Math
1. Study commutatively to find known facts of 6, 7, 8, and 9.
2. Apply the distributive property and commutative properties to relate multiplication facts.
Science
1. Ecosystem – is all the parts of an environment that interact.
2. Biotic factors – living things that make up an ecosystem. Examples.
3. Abiotic factors – nonliving things found in an ecosystem. Examples.
4. Terrarium – an environment you create with a container. Used to enclose the environment.
5. Earth has many kinds of ecosystems.
6. Climate is the pattern of weather in a place over a long time.
7. Soil – is made of bits of rock and humus. It contains nutrients and soaks up rainwater.
8. Humus – is broken down plant and animal material.
9. Ecosystems are different in the types of plants and animals it has.
10. A wetland is an ecosystem where water covers the soil for most of the year.
11. Swamp – a wetland with trees and scrubs.

Social Studies
1. In 1492, an Italian explorer, named Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain to discover the Americas.
2. An explorer is a person who goes to find out about a place.
3. Second Monday of October is Columbus Day. It is celebrated by many American cities with parades.
4. Columbus thought he had reached the Indies, so he called the people he met Indians.
5. To claim something is to say that it belongs to you.
6. Many countries claimed parts of the Americas. (know)
7. Spain was the first European country to explore Louisiana.
8. In 1682 Rene-Robert Cavieller claimed the entire Mississippi River valley for France.
9. Louisiana was named after King Louis XIV of France.
10. Settlements – new communities.
11. Founders – people who started.
12. Settlers – are the first people to live in a place.
13. A colony is a region ruled by another country.
14. One of the first English colonies in North America was the Plymouth colony, started in 1620.
15. By the 1700s, there were 13 colonies along the Atlantic Ocean.
16. A plantation is a large farm.
17. By the mid-1760s Acadians began to settle in Louisiana.
