Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and Diaoyutai brand

Diaoyutai hotel brand draws its name and inspiration from the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, which has an illustrious history stretching back more than 800 years. The “Diaoyutai” (the Chinese literally means ‘fishing platform’) was where Jin Dynasty, Emperor Zhang Zong used to go fishing - on the very spot where the fabled Guesthouse now stands. During the Qing Dynasty, the Emperor Qianlong handwrote the three Chinese characters of ‘Diao’ ‘Yu’ ‘Tai’, and these now form the logo of the Diaoyutai Hotel. Diaoyutai State Guesthouse was founded in 1959 in Beijing, and till now has received and accommodated more than 1,300 heads of foreign states and governments.

The core essence of Diaoyutai hotel brand is akin to that of a highly knowledgeable man with rich life experiences; an individual with an open mind who is, by nature, modest and generous in disposition. Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou envisages what this person’s mansion might be like, a place where distinguished guests from around the world are welcomed and entertained. Guests of the hotel will experience a contemporary reinterpretation of 5,000 years of Chinese culture, combined with fine western elements. This includes the signature constantly evolving Diaoyutai Cuisine menu, which creatively fuses Chinese and Western cuisines as served to world leaders at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Chinese Spirit, International Outlook

Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou embodies the essence of Chinese as well as the indigenous Qiangtang culture, with the highest standards of international hospitality. Designed by renowned British architecture firm, Atkins, the architecture captures the essence of the prestigious Diaoyutai brand while infusing contemporary aesthetics into the design concept. They skillfully maintain a delicate balance between tradition and modernity, whilst also place Hangzhou itself within a wider, international context.

Courtyard, Alleyways and Qiantang River

The lobby is the first imposing place to greet guests as they walk into into the hotel. Its inspiration comes from the structure and layout of the traditional Beijing courtyard and "Hui" style architecture. It is the "living room" of the home, where guests can get a glimpse of the owner's knowledge, broad-mindedness, elegant and modest character.

The Lounge is an all-day dining restaurant and lounge where guests can mingle, socialize and enjoy international cuisines. It has a total of 146 seats with soft natural sunlight coming through the glass walls. The “ceramic plates” on the ceiling are inspired by Hangzhou’s porcelain culture in the history. Along the windows, there are comfortable sofas and furniture, retaining the charm of traditional Chinese style while infusing modern elements. Guests can relax and enjoy the view of the scenic outdoor garden through glass walls - or walk into the park and appreciate the views of Qiangtang River.

Pinju Hangzhou is a casual Chinese restaurant offering 160 seats in addition to a private room for 12 and a separate dining area where could accommodate 30 along with an outdoor dining zone for up to 20. The outdoor dining zone is designed to evoke local alleyways and features various indigenous elements such as slate, bamboo, old ceramics, aged elm, elegant cotton, picturesque rocks and other artistic charms. Walking around the zone feels like visiting a local dining street.

On top of the hotel, the eighteenth floor is the highest spot offering panoramic views. It is the perfect place to organize private banquets, business meetings or weddings.
