Rules and Eligibility

The 2014 Diamond State Open is a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned, non-qualifying competition and will be conducted under the rules that apply to the 2013-2014 competitive season. Any rule changes made at the May 2014 Governing Council effective before May 31, 2014 will apply at this competition. Skaters must be eligible persons registered as members of U.S. Figure Skating and may compete at their test level or one level higher as of April 25, 2014 Ages are as of April 25, 2014

Basic Skills: Snowplow Sam through Basic 8; Free skate 1-6, Adult 1-4, Basic Synchronzied Skating Levels 1-3, Show Skate/Artistic

Free Skating: Well-Balanced Program – No test through Senior; Adult Pre-Bronze through Gold

Competitive Test Track – Limited Beginner through Senior

Championship Events( includes short program and free skate): Juvenile through Senior

Compulsory Moves: Limited Beginner through Juvenile/Open Juvenile; Adult Pre-Bronze through Gold

Jumps: Limited Pre-Preliminary through Senior; Adult Pre-Bronze through Gold

Spins: Limited Pre-Preliminary through Senior; Adult Pre-Bronze through Gold

Duets and Ensembles Limited Pre-Preliminary through Senior, Adult. Ages and genders combined.

Singles Showcase: Limited Beginner through Senior; Adult

Interpretive Free Skate: Preliminary through Senior, Adult

IJS (International Judging System) will be used on all Championship events (Free skate and short programs), Juvenile through Senior free skate only. IJS will also be used for well-balanced free skate Juvenile through Senior. A planned elements sheet must be included with your entry. Go to your account in the online registration system (Entry Eeze) and click on the "Planned Program Content" tab. The deadline to submit Planned Program Content is April 25, 2014.

Facility

The Arkansas Skatium is located at 1311 S. Bowman Road, Little Rock, AR 72211 (501) 227-4333. The ice surface measures 80’ X 180”. The ice has rounded corners. There is an 8 inch rise to access the ice over which the skater must step.

Entry Fee Deadline Only online entry will be accepted. Online entry with secure credit card payment is available at diamondedgefsc.org. . Online entry must be completed by midnight Central Daylight time on April 25, 2014. Notification of competition and practice ice times will NOT be available by phone, mail, or email. Skater and Coach schedules will be available via the web at diamondedgefsc.org. Any late fee, if accepted by the competition committee, must be accompanied by a $25 late fee. Anything submitted after midnight April 25, 2014 will be considered a late entry. Full refunds including practice ice, minus the online processing fee, are available if withdrawal is prior to April 25, 2014. After April 25, 2014, entry refunds are only available if the competition is not held or there is a death in the competitor's immediate family. There will be NO medical refunds given. Refunds will be returned to your credit card as soon as the competition committee determines that a refund is due. When you register online, the processing fee is not refundable for any reason. There will be a $25.00 change fee for change of each event or level after April 25, 2014. NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS: Contested credit card charges will be assessed a $25.00 fee. Payment of the fee will be required before the skater is allowed to participate in practice ice or events.

When registering online, we will ask you to provide some additional information via a few questions before you check out and pay. This information is mandatory and you will only have one opportunity to enter the data. You will be asked to provide the following information for this competition: 1) Please enter a 25 word description of your artistic program (if you are doing one). There may be some questions that are optional and you can choose to answer them or not at the end of the registration process. We would appreciate you taking the time to answer so that we may obtain feedback that will allow us to make this event even better in the future.

TEAM(Ensemble) ENTRIES: Use the Team entry form. You will need to register each team separately and pay for that team (all members together)in the online system. When you register the team, you will need to provide the following information: TEAM CONTACT (a primary person who will be responsible for the team), TEAM NAME (this will be used on the skating orders and in the program), NUMBER OF TEAM MEMBERS (this should include alternates) and will be the basis of the per member charge for the event), TEAM ROSTER. For the Team roster the following information will be required skater first and last name, skater date of birth, skater highest test passed for free skate, skater USFS number, email address of the skater if over 18 or the email address of the skater's legal guardian if under 18 so that they can accept the liability waiver for that skater.

Singles (Championship OR Well Balanced Event must be entered as first event):

Limited Beginner through Pre-Juvenile, Adult Pre-Bronze through Gold (free skate only) $95.00

IJS events Well Balanced Juvenile through Senior $125.00

Championship Juvenile through Senior (combined short program and free skate) $145.00

Each additional singles event: $30

Ensembles: $30 per team member (see separate entry form)

Duets: $30.00 per skater in duet

APPLICATIONS for ensembles must be done by one person. Two entries will be sufficient to hold an event.

Groups

A large number of entries in some events will be divided into groups as follows: Limited Beginner through Open Juvenile will be grouped by birth date. Juvenile through Senior Well Balanced events and Championship events will be grouped by random draw. Limited Beginner through Open Juvenile Free Skate, Compulsory Moves and all Spins, Jumps, Duets, Ensembles, and Showskate/Artistic events with insufficient entries at a particular level may combine groups of male and female and entrants will be judged together.

Single Entrants

In the event of a single entrant for an event, the skater will be contacted and offered the choice of a refund or skating for a critique (and IJS numbers if applicable). Events may be combined at the referee’s discretion.

Practice Ice

Skaters may reserve up to two (2) sessions in advance. Skaters will be able to pick practice ice sessions online but MUST indicate the number of sessions desired and MUST pay for the sessions with the entry fee when registering. An email will be sent with a PIN number in order to access practice ice records and select sessions. Practice ice will be $20 per session when sessions are pre-ordered. Additional practice ice sales will be available online for $20 per session after the schedule has been posted and those that have pre-registered have had time to select their sessions. Additional practice ice will be available for purchase at the competition and will cost $25 at the registration table. Practice ice will be scheduled on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Practice Ice will also be available on Saturday morning from 6:00-7:30 a.m. Practice ice may be expanded on Saturday morning if necessary. Sessions will be limited to no more than 12 skaters per session. Sessions will be leveled. There will be a separate practice ice session for ensembles. All sessions will be 30 minutes in length. (Only the first 2 minutes of music will be played for each skater. Music will be played in order of check-in.)

CDs for Practice ice must be separate from competition CDs and will be returned to the skater at the conclusion of the practice ice session.

Music

Each CD must have only one music track on it. No CD-RW discs will be accepted. CD’s must be clearly marked with the skater’s name, event, and time and must be turned in at time of registration. A separate CD must be available for practice ice and will be returned at the end of practice. A spare CD must be available. CD’s may be picked up at the registration table immediately following each event. No CDs, once registered, will be returned to the skater for practice ice. .**No skater may register without submitting their music and coaches may not register skaters without turning in the competition music at the time of registration **

A tentative schedule of events and practice times will be posted around the middle of May on the Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club website (www.diamondedgefsc.org ). Please be sure to watch for it.

Photography Photography services will be available. No flash photography is permitted in the ice arena.

Souvenir T-Shirts: A vendor will be available for purchase of t-shirts.

Flowers: Available for purchase at the competition. Be sure to purchase for some podium photos. Flowers are not allowed to be thrown on the ice at any time.

Critique

Critiques may be available to skaters who compete in Championship events in Juvenile through Senior levels. There is no additional charge for the critique which will be by one qualified judge and/or technical panel member immediately following the event. Critques must be requested before the event occurs. A sign up sheet will be available at registration.

Awards

Non-championship events will be divided into groups when necessary and medals will be presented to the top three places in each group. Limited beginner through senior competitors in well balanced programs will receive medals for the top three places. Awards will be presented off ice at the awards area immediately following completion of the event and posting of the results. Pictures will be taken at this time.

Registration Desk

Check in at the registration desk at the competition either Friday night or Saturday morning prior to the first event or by noon on Saturday at the latest. Registration will close at 12 noon. The events are scheduled to be completed on May 31, 2014. The competition is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Practice ice will be available on Friday, May 30 at 5:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 6:00 am until 7:30 a.m. The registration desk will open Friday, May 30, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Registration will re-open again on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 5:45 a.m. and will remain open until 12:00 pm. No skater may compete in any event without registering first.

Coach Registration

Coaches must provide photo ID and validation of coach credentials at the registration desk to receive the competition credential. No coach may stand with skaters without proper credentials.

Program Advertising: Wish your favorite skater good luck! Make your skater feel special with a Good Luck advertisement in the competition program. Put a smile on your skater’s face with a personalized ad to show you care. Wording must be 10 words or less per advertisement. Use the portal through Entry Eeze to create your ad.

Additional Information

A U.S. Figure Skating test session is planned for May 30, 2014 (form available on www.diamondedgefsc.org.)

Juvenile– Senior: The championship event is a combined event consisting of the Short and Free skate programs. Should entries call for initial rounds, they will consist of the Short and Free Skate programs, with the final round consisting of the Free Skate program only. Elements for the Short program will be the same as those specified for the 2013-2014 competitive season in the 2013-2014 U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook unless changes are made at the May 2014 Governing Council that take effect prior to May 31, 2014
The chief referee will determine the number of skaters advancing from the initial rounds to the championship round.
