To all our club members

Rewarding our most loyal customers during 2017/2018

The membership swipe card scheme has been in place now for just two years. As far as I am aware we are the only club in the area rewarding you for your custom in this way. I’m not sure if you are all aware but every time you swipe your card to receive a 50p discount on alcoholic drinks and a 40p discount on soft drinks, from non member’s prices, you are accumulating valuable loyalty points.

SO PLEASE USE YOUR CARD EVERYTIME YOU PURCHASE DRINKS.

The Management has decided again this year to reward our very best customers for their continuing support throughout the year. It is very much appreciated. Club vouchers will be awarded during the month of April - they will be for varying amounts dependant on your place on the list!

Supporting “Dry January”

Every year several of our members take part in “Dry January.” This year the club would like to support them by reducing the cost of Becks Blue - a virtually alcohol free lager to £1.90 per bottle for members. Also available is the Estrella Galicia zero alcohol free lager at £1.80 per bottle for members. Offers end 31st January.

Staff Update

Please make most welcome our newest member of staff, Sarah Hampton. Sarah joined us just before Christmas - please be patient with her as she gets to know you all and working in her new surroundings. We are now fully staffed!

A big thank you for supporting all our Christmas events

On Friday 15th December we held our Christmas draw and member’s reward night - what a great night and some wonderful prizes were won by many. Many thanks to Janine and Mandy for all their hard work preparing for this event.

On Friday 22nd December it was Christmas bingo - this was really well attended again this year by more than 80 people. A big thank you to Janine and Mandy for preparing the food.

47 children enjoyed their Christmas party with Johnny G on Thursday 28th December each child received a voucher worth £5, an animal balloon and a selection pack. He certainly kept the children entertained.

Christmas lunches attracted more than 146 guests in total, the most we have had for many years, our chefs, Louise & Matt, cooked an excellent meal and I hope that a good time was had by all - it certainly seemed like it. Thank you to Stacey and Blake for all their hard work over the Christmas period ensuring service to all groups ran smoothly.

New Year’s Eve was enjoyed by around 100 guests, Victoria was amazing, as always, and the disco was superb.

Thank you to the Committee and Staff

What a wonderful year 2017 has been for the club. We have never been busier and our success is due to the hard working staff who are always available to help out with all the extra bookings that come in at short notice - without them we would not be able to host all these events.

The staff are flexible with their hours, actually willing to work, and certainly go that extra mile if needed.

To the committee who regularly voluntarily give up their time to run club events such as twice monthly bingo, the weekly Saturday night draw and quiz and bingo in the lounge.

To Andy Hyde for the never ending work behind the scenes.

To John Webb for helping out at all the various functions. Thank you.

Children’s Christmas Party Bottle

Thank you to all the members who throughout the year have donated their loose change and sometimes much more towards the Children’s Christmas party. The final total this year was a staggering £360 - the most ever collected which was fantastic. Some of the funds were raised from members borrowing equipment from the club for private events and then making a generous donation.

Smiles Corner Episode 4

Submitted by Steve Hyde

A man wakes up in a hospital bed after a terrible accident and cries, “Doctor! Doctor! I can’t feel my legs.”

The doctor comes over to the poor chap’s bedside and says, “Of course you can’t I’ve amputated both your arms.”

After hearing that one of the patients in a mental hospital had saved another from a suicide attempt by pulling him out of a bathtub, the director reviews the rescuer’s file and called him into his office.

“Mr James,” says the official, “Your records and your heroic behaviour indicate that you are ready to go home. I’m only sorry that the man you saved later killed himself with a rope around the neck.”

“Oh, he didn’t kill himself,” Mr James replied, “I hung him up to dry.”

*********************************************************

A young cleric is preparing to board a plane when he hears the Pope is on the same flight. “This is exciting,” he thinks, “I’ve wanted to see the Pope in person. He’s, therefore, even more surprised when the Pope sits down next to him and starts work on a crossword puzzle. “This is fantastic,” thinks the young priest. “I’m really good at crosswords, perhaps if the Pope gets stuck he will ask me for assistance.” Almost immediately, the Pope turns to him. “Excuse me,” he croaks, “But do you know a four letter word referring to a woman? It ends -unt?” Only one word leapt to the priest’s mind. “My goodness,” he thinks, beginning to sweat. “I can’t tell the Pope that, there must be another word.” Racking his brains, it finally hits him, and he turns to the Pontiff. “I think the word that you’re looking for is ‘aunt’,” he says, relieved. “Of course,” says the Pope, “Hmm. You don’t have any Tippex, do you?”
