DEVELOPMENTAL OPPORTUNITY APPOINTMENT AGREEMENT

General Information

This developmental opportunity appointment is a temporary work assignment in the (college/department) for (employee)to gain new skills and experience, relevant to (his/her) career goals. (Employee) is anunclassified employee currently employed by the (college/department) at Oregon State University as (job title/classification). (Employee) seeks to take advantage of a developmental opportunity assignment that provides (him/her) the opportunity to gain the following skills and experience: (describe the knowledge/skills to be gained through this experience).

(Employee’s) home department supervisor (name), and the developmental opportunity supervisor (name), agree that the developmental opportunity outlined below will provide (employee) an opportunity to gain new skills and job experience.

Employee Status

(Employee) voluntarily agrees to remain in (his/her) unclassified position as (title) at (X.X) FTE and accept an academic wage appointment at (X.X) FTE for the duration of this agreement.

Duration of Agreement

It is anticipated that the duration of the developmental opportunity will extend from (beginning date) through (ending date). (Employee) acknowledges that at the end of the developmental opportunity (he/she) will return to (his/her) former unclassified position duties in the (department/unit).

If this temporary developmental opportunity becomes a regular unclassified position, (employee) understands that (he/she) will have the option of applying and competing for the position during a recruitment period, provided (he/she) meets the minimum qualifications for the position.

Assignment Description

The duties and responsibilities assigned to the employee through this developmental opportunity are outlined in Attachment A of this agreement.

Performance Plan/Expected Outcomes

The parties agree that a work performance plan that clearly identifies expected outcomes to be achieved by both the employee and the supervisor is essential to the success of this developmental opportunity appointment. Therefore, (developmental opportunity supervisor) and (employee) will collaboratively develop a work performance plan that will outline the goals and accomplishments expected to be achieved during the appointment.

Evaluation Process

The parties agree that an established and clear evaluation process is essential to the success of this developmental opportunity appointment. Therefore, each party agrees to the following:

  • (Developmental opportunity supervisor) will complete an evaluation of (employee’s) performance at the completion of this assignment. This evaluation will include a summary that identifies whether or not (his/her) expected outcomes of the appointment were achieved - and to what level of satisfaction.
  • (Employee) will complete an evaluation of the skills and job experience gained during (his/her) time in this appointment. This evaluation will also include a summary that identifies whether or not (his/her) expected outcomes of the appointment were achieved - and to what level of satisfaction.
  • These evaluations will be reviewed and discussed between (developmental opportunity supervisor) and (employee),

FLSA Status

(As notified by OHR, use one of the following paragraphs):

This job assignment does not meet the criteria for exemption from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, thus (employee) will be eligible to receive overtime compensation, as appropriate, while working in this developmental opportunity. Overtime will require prior approval of (his/her) supervisor, and if pre-authorized, will be paid as overtime pay or compensatory time off.

OR

This position meets the criteria for exemption from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act; thus, (employee) will not be eligible to receive overtime compensation while working in this developmental opportunity.

Work Schedule

Both parties understand that this developmental opportunity requires (employee) to perform (his/her) assigned duties as directed by (his/her) supervisor. (Add here any information relevant to the work schedule for the developmental opportunity.)

Compensation and Benefits

  • The salary for this developmental opportunity will be $_____ per (hour/month).
  • Benefit costs will be covered by (department/unit).
  • Vacation Leave Accrual: 15 hours per month at 1.0 FTE, prorated as appropriate.
  • Sick Leave Accrual: 8 hours per month at 1.0 FTE, prorated as appropriate.

Employee) must contact their Business Center for an explanation of the use and accrual of leave.

(Employee’s)current Technology Transfer Agreement remains in effect.

Discontinuation of the Developmental Opportunity

At any time, the current supervisor, the developmental opportunity supervisor, OR (employee) may determine it is necessary to terminate this developmental opportunity agreement prior to the ending date stated above.
