Job Purpose
The Varkey Foundation is an education NGO, with projects currently operating in Ghana and Uganda. The NGO has a particular focus on teacher training.
We are recruiting for a Head of Partnerships to join our growing team. The Head of Partnerships will play a vital role in supporting the Varkey Foundation’s programmes and contribute to the future success of the Foundation’s fundraising by driving brand new initiatives as well as ensuring long-term sustainability of current projects
The role will be responsible for identifying, securing and mobilising donor-funded programmes, working closely with the Director of Programmes and Project Leads to manage donor relationships.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
The Head of Partnerships will have the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Forge new partnerships and opportunities with NGOs, governments, grant-funding organisations and private sector business etc.
  • Develop and implement an effective fundraising strategy, in line with the Foundation’s mission
  • Drive fundraising efforts to sustain and grow the programmes in different countries
  • Contribute to the overall running of the Foundation as an active member of the management team
  • Ensuring a pipeline of fundraising activity is built for the medium and long term
Measurable outputs and performance indicators:
  • Identification of new potential donors to broaden the Foundations donor base
  • Submission of high quality proposals and new donor contracts received
  • Contribute to the production of high quality reports to donors for ongoing projects

Person Specifications
Qualifications & Experience
  • Wide experience of working in a fundraising/ business development role
  • Education sector experience is desirable
  • Experience of developing and delivering fundraising strategies
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
Key skills & Competencies
  • Proven fundraising skills in at least one of the areas of major donor, regular giving or legacy fundraising, with the ability to achieve financial targets
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • High standard of computer competency and literacy

  • Able to maintain strong working relationships with key donors
