Details Specific to the Post

Background and Context

As part of a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) award to AAK (UK) and the University of Hull, this appointee will research and develop innovative vegetable oil based materials for use in new fat bakery products and develop a detailed scientific understanding of complex fat crystallisation networks.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

·  Complete University and AAK (UK) Ltd. induction.

·  Complete required training and development including a KTP business and management training course and mini-project.

·  Develop detailed project plan and risk assessment.

·  Learn to use a wide range of laboratory-based analytical technologies and then link these to real-world manufacturing processes.

·  Assess the edible oil market, research current and future customer requirements and be involved in the development, production, marketing and trialling of new E-additive-free edible oil products.

·  Assess how laboratory measurements relate to product quality and how this can then be controlled in cost-effective, reproducible pilot plant and full-scale manufacture.

·  Research, review, evaluate, understand and then apply the complex science of fat crystal networks not containing E-additives.

·  Identify, model and test new & innovative edible oil products with enhanced properties.

·  Acquire knowledge/awareness of product manufacture.

·  Acquire knowledge/awareness of market competitors in the field of edible oil products.

·  Complete knowledge transfer and dissemination activities to ensure full embedding of new knowledge and expertise within AAK (UK) Ltd.

·  Any other duties commensurate with the grade as appropriate.

·  The post holder will be expected to undertake all duties in line with the Health and Safety Policies of both the University and AAK (UK) Ltd.

Overall Purpose of the Role

A KTP Associate post is a career development role which gives graduates an opportunity to manage a challenging project central to a business’s strategic development and long term growth.

Through the KTP project, the KTP Associate will play a key role in managing and implementing tactical or strategic development in the business and transferring knowledge between the business and the University. KTP Associates own their project and are supported by experienced staff from the business and the University.

The KTP Associate will receive close supervision and direction from more senior colleagues and will receive academic and pastoral support and guidance which may include specific training, career counselling and mentoring.

The main focus of the work will involve the generation or collection of data using standard methods which have been developed by others. The role holder will assist with analysis and interpretation of results and the drafting of research reports and publications.

Main Work Activities

1.  Pro-actively contribute to the research project and conduct own research to include:

·  Gather, prepare, analyse and interpret data

·  Conduct literature and database searches

·  Write up and present own research results.

2.  Contribute to the management of research projects to include:

·  Contribute to the planning of projects

·  Plan own research activity within the framework of the agreed programme.

3.  Prepare reports and papers describing the results of the research for both internal and external publication to include:

·  Contribute to the production of research reports and publications

·  Present information on research progress and outcomes to bodies supervising research.

4.  Work positively with colleagues in the research team and other collaborators, partners and support staff on routine matters both inside and outside the University:

·  Make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge and understanding and form relationships for future collaboration

·  Actively participate as a member of the research team which will involve attending and contributing to relevant meetings.

5.  Provide guidance as required to support staff and any project students who may be assisting with the research.

6.  Demonstrate evidence of own personal and professional development including:

·  Appraisal, induction and performance reviews

·  Participation in training and development activity

·  Maintenance of links with professional institutions and other related bodies.

Additionally the post holder will be required to:
