2) International Women's Day - 8 March 2008. GDN joined the celebration of International Women's Day. We hope that this important event provided an opportunity to reflect upon the courage and perseverance of women around the world to survive in the midst of crises and conflicts they find themselves in. We hope that our work continues to be inspired by their stories.

4) Gender and natural disaster: Sexualized violence and the tsunami. Claudia Feltenn-Biernmann. This study looks at the consequences of natural disasters for women in the aftermath of the 2004 Asian tsunami. The author argues that sexualized violence is not adequately guarded against in such disasters and that much stronger pressure from the aid community needs to be brought to bear.
