C.DESIGN CRITERIA
1.Specify compliance with ANSI A13.1 for lettering size, length of color field, colors, and installed viewing angles of identification devices.
2.Pipe:
a.Specify color coded bands (except as specified herein), fluid code and flow arrows in accordance with ANSI 13.1 Standard.

4.Valves
a.Specify valve schedule that includes identification of emergency shut-off valves and special use valves.
b.Specify brass tags for: Each valve (General duty, special duty & control).
c.Exclude check valves, valves within factory fabricated units, HVAC terminal isolation valves.
5.Major Equipment
a.Specify engraved plastic laminate sign or plastic equipment marker on or near each major item of mechanical equipment and each operational device, in accordance with UC master equipment numbering scheme (APPA).
b.Specify that the following equipment be identified:
1.Control System Panels and major devices
2.Meters
3.Heaters
4.Motor driven units, such as: pumps, compressors, chillers, fans, blowers.
5.Major heat transfer equipment: heat exchangers, condensers, cooling towers, heat recovery units and similar equipment.
6.HVAC air handling units and terminal units.
7.Tanks and vessels.
8.Special components that may need regular maintenance or require awareness during trouble-shooting functions.
6.HVAC Ductwork
a.Specify plastic laminate or stenciled signs and arrows, in black or white (whichever provides most contrast with the ductwork color).
b.Specify that the following ductwork be identified:
1.Supply
2.Return
3.Exhaust
4.Intake
5.Relief
c.Location: Where ductwork is exposed, concealed by removable ceiling tiles, at duct origin, prior to concealed areas, and at 50 ft. intervals along exposed runs.
d.Access Doors: Specify stenciled or plastic laminate signs; as well as, purpose and other appropriate maintenance, operating, safety and procedural information.
e.Concealed Doors: Specify to be stenciled or plastic signs.
f.Specify location of markers, and confirm with the University.
