Primary Objectives of Position /
  1. To teach in the Massage & Myotherapy programs as required (including Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) and other course areas including VET in Schools and VCAL programs.
  2. Practically demonstrate appropriate massage/myotherapy techniques, and maintain a safe training environment by demonstrating correct movement and set-up of portable massage tables.
  3. Design and implement appropriate learning strategies, assessments, course material and resources.
  4. Assist with student selection.
  5. Assist in the placement and assessment of students in practical work experience when necessary.
  6. To develop a professional relationship between members of both the Complementary Therapies and Education Industries.
  7. To develop new program opportunities which may involve other curriculum areas.
  8. To perform other professional duties in support of the administration, coordination and promotion of programs as directed by the Manager.

Role of Position /
  • To ensure that the relevant massage and myotherapy teaching program fulfils its curriculum requirements maintaining excellent standards.
  • This position requires an enthusiastic, organised individual with excellent communication skills and a passion for the Complementary Therapies industry.
  • To maintain accurate teaching records and a positive approach to new initiatives and developments within the massage and myotherapy department and Holmesglen.

Internal Communication Requirements /
  • Maintain communication with the:
–Dean,Faculty of Education, Services Skills and Environment
–Head of Department, Tourism, Recreation & Complementary Health
–Senior Educator - Complementary Health
–Other teaching staff within the Faculty
–Other internal support departments
–Liaise with departments servicing program
–Liaise with administrative departments
External Communication Requirements /
  • Respond to enquiries from students.
  • Maintain communication with professional associations to promote the interests of the Department and the Institute.
  • Liaise with industry bodies and organisations.
  • Communicate with industry in order to maintain current workplace practices and assist in the placement of students within the fitness industry.

Specific Accountabilities /
  1. To teach in the Massage & Myotherapy programs as required (including Cert IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) and other course areas including VET in Schools and VCAL programs.
  2. Assist with student selection.
  3. Maintain all appropriately identified industry accreditations/certifications as deemed by Dean/Head of Department.
  4. Maintain accurate student records including attendance and resulting.
  5. Coordinate the operation and scheduling of Student clinic placement within the Holmesglen – Wellness Clinic.
  6. Participate in the preparation and selection of resources/course materials.
  7. Assist with the placement of students within industry for the practical training component (if required).
  8. Be aware of sensitive issues in relation to access, equity, equal opportunity and social justice.
  9. Operate within the established Institute policies and procedures.
  10. Increase the profile of Holmesglen within the Complementary Therapies Education Industry.
  11. Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Department, Tourism, Recreation and Complementary Health.
  12. Maintain the requirements of the HIT Management System.

Qualifications / Minimum
  • An appropriate industry qualification (Diploma of Remedial Massage or Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage (Myotherapy)).
  • Certificate lV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
  • Level II First Aid Certificate
  • Current working with children check.
Preferred
  • Diploma in VET or a Diploma in Education.
  • Relevant degree (Musculo-skeletal Therapy; Complementary Therapies or Health Science)
  • Practitioner registration with a relevant industry body
  • Certificate IV in Fitness or degree in Exercise Science/Human Movement or Physical Education.

Knowledge /
  • A sound knowledge of the Massage & Myotherapy industry.
  • An understanding of the Health (Complementary Therapies) training package.
  • Knowledge of the Massage & Myotherapy programs delivered at Holmesglen.
  • A sound knowledge of the requirements of AQTF.

Experience /
  • Relevantmassage and myotherapy industry experience which includes the design and implementation of massage and myotherapy treatment programs.
  • Preferred experience includes the design and implementation of massage programs and / or exercise rehabilitation programs.
  • Relevant experience in teaching within the Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Massage (Myotherapy) courses. Experience in teaching a combination of anatomy, physiology, pathology, basic massage techniques, advanced remedial massage techniques, hygiene, occupational health & safety and ethics.
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate and manage a Complementary Therapies clinic. Including resource management (financial management), rostering and clinic promotional activities.

  7. Relevantindustry experience.
  8. An understanding of the Health (Complementary Therapies) training package.

Location / NOTE: The Incumbent may be required to perform his/her duties at any campus or location controlled by the Board or elsewhere as directed.
