Wooden cross standing in the dunes on Sunset Beach, NC. This cross was originally erected down on the beach where Sunday morning services are conducted every week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. However, an issue was raised about the cross being erected on public land, so it was moved to its current location on the dune which is privately owned and is just adjacent to the weekly worship services. The dune has grown steadily since the cross was placed there over ten years ago. Originally it was a traditionally-shaped cross, but now because of the “sands of time” it more closely resembles a D.O.K. cross. It has withstood many tropical storms and a few hurricanes, and it still serves as a beacon to Sunday morning worshippers.
